How To Approach The Word
How To Approach The Word
THE
RIGHT ATTITUDE
You need to ask God to open your understanding, just as Jesus did for His disciples.
Fountain of Life.
It establishes principles that guide you in your daily Life. It changes the way you think and live.
MEDITATION
This will help turn dead letters into powerful active truth, influencing you to pray with more strength and commitment.
Joshua 1:8
"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth" The invitation to meditate on the book of the law, the Word of God, is one we should accept all day and night not just for a few moments now and again. The Word helps, leads, and strengthens us in all of our daily activities. The Lord motivates us in this passage to continually confess the Word, saying "You shall meditate in it day and night...
OBEDIENCE
"But you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
Joshua 1:8
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 1:22
RECEPTIVE HEART
Hold on to the Word and as you read it everyday, ask God to turn your heart into good soil, capable of receiving the seed and producing fruit - 30, 60 and l00-fold.
Everyone seeking God desires to hear His voice in a personal and direct way. It can be hard to believe that He is genuinely interested in us that He loves and longs for us.
"But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise let us go from here.
John 14:31
When you are studying the Word, the place, atmosphere, and time play a fundamental role. That is why you need to keep these suggestions in mind:
B. Buy a notebook and make it your devotional diary C. Establish a study pattern
D. Plan your daily devotions
For this reason we recommend Tim La Haye's method in his book, "How to Study the Bible for Yourself". This book explains the importance of applying four points to each passage:
COMMANDMENT TO OBEY
A promise generally has conditions for its fulfilment. These are the commandments for us to obey.
PERSONAL APPLICATION
Establish a specific plan about how you are going to do this, and map out the steps that will accomplish it. If your Bible study does not produce a change in you, you have not really studied. After studying, there must come a change in your way of life.
With this Bible study method you will be able to measure how much you advance each day. Go back over your notes where necessary and study the Word again.
"Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11
"Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those why contradict."
Titus 1:9
"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Ephesians 6:17
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."
John 15:7
"These things 1 have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
1 John 5:13:
In adverse circumstances, our sustaining force is the Word hidden in our hearts and the Biblical promises we have received from God.
"These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
John 15:33
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you."
1 Peter 3:15
After reading and meditating on the Word, always end your time with prayer. Ask God to teach you how to apply what you have learned during your Bible study.
Seek His forgiveness for committed sins and ask Him to take control of every area of your life. By doing this you will, without a doubt find success in everything you do.
"I have seen the consummation of all perfection, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad. Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.
Psalm 119:96-97
