ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT 1
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this chapter, the reader should be able to: 1. Explain the difference between simple angle tolerance zones and angularity tolerance zones.
2. Use the sine bar (or sine plate) for angularity inspection.
ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT
OBJECTIVES: 3. Use angular gage blocks for angularity inspection. 4. Measure the angularity of a conical feature.
ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT
Angularity is an .. tolerance that provides accurate control over the functional angles of a part
ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT
Applications of Angularity:
Angular interfaces in assembly Specific angles that have a direct bearing on the fit, form, or function of the part.

The principle of a sine bar is that the two cylinders and their distance apart form a hypotenuse of a right triangle. A specific gage block stack under one end of the sine bar forms the opposite side of a right triangle. When the correct combinations are put together, the surface of the bar is precisely inclined at the selected angle.

Angular gage blocks come in three different sets. Each of the following sets has an angle range from 00 to 900: 1. Six-block set; the smallest increment of angle that can be produced is 10
2. Eleven-block set; the smallest increment of angle that can be produced is 1 minute 3. Sixteen-block set; the smallest increment of angle that can be produced is 1 second

ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT 39
KEY FACTS:
Angularity tolerances must be specified with respect to at least one datum reference (at times, more than one is needed) Angularity tolerances require that the desired angle be shown as a basic angle The angularity tolerance zone in all cases is two parallel planes the stated tolerance apart and inclined at the basic angle from the datum reference
ANGULARITY MEASUREMENT 40
4. Angularity, when applied to a surface, inherently controls the flatness of that surface to the extent of the stated angularity tolerance. 5. Size features controlled with angularity tolerances are automatically RFS applications per rule 3 (unless MMC is stated in the feature control frame). 6. Size features controlled with angularity tolerances are controlled only in the view shown with respect to the datum(s) identified. The feature is not controlled in other directions
