Nature of Communication

Communication is the exchange of information between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior. It requires that all parties involved understand the same language or means of transmitting information. There are several key elements to the communication process including participants, a medium to transmit the message, encoding of the message by the sender, transmission of the information, decoding or understanding of the message by the receiver, and potential feedback from the receiver. Barriers to effective communication can occur at the transmission, medium, or reception stages and include issues like semantic differences, socio-cultural factors, psychological states, and physical or environmental limitations.

Meaning and Concept of Communication

Came from the latin word COMMUNICARE Communication is a process that allows organisms to exchange information by several methods. Communication requires that all parties understand a common language that is exchanged with each other. There are auditory means, such as speaking, singing and sometimes tone of voice, and nonverbal, physical means, such as body language, sign language, paralanguage, touch, eye contact, or the use of writing.

Barriers to Communication
Anything that obstructs free flow of communication is refered to as barrier to communication
