How SFMS teachers have prepared me for the CST

We have reviewed things we have learned. We have used our CST Review books. We have taken tests that help us predict what ours scores will be.

The Night and Morning Before

Do not eat too much junk food the night before. Sleep at least eight hours. Eat a healthy, balanced breakfast.

During the Test

Focus on your own work. If you do not understand a question circle it an do it later. Take your time you have plenty of time to finish. Stay calm and do not stress out. Read directions carefully. Ask questions if you don't understand or need clarification.

Math Tips
Write all the formulas you need on a scratch piece of paper. Show all your work so that you could check your work later. Eliminate unreasonable answers. Do the least amount of work necessary so that you will not get bored and tired. Use all the time you need, you have more than enough time.

English Tips
Read the questions first. Underline important facts from the text. Read the text again if you did not understand it. Eliminate un reason able answers.

Plug in the answer to se if it sounds right.

Inequalities & linear equations

Inequalities are just like linear equations, they can be solved and graphed. When they are graphed one side must be shaded. They have a slope and a y-intercept. Instead of an = sign they have either one of these >,<, , . The plotted line can be solid or dotted.

Inequalities & linear equations

A linear equation a can be solved and plotted. They have a y-intercept and a slope. They have points. Two equations can be parallel or perpendicular. Two of them are a system of equations.

Example
Inequality 1. 2(y + 1) y - 4 2. 2y+2 y-4 3. y+2 -4 4. y-6 Linear Equations 1. 4x=36 2. 4x=36 4 4 3. X=9

Idioms
Definition: a group of words whose meaning in not deducible by those individual words. It is hard to predict the idioms definition. An idioms meaning is different from its literal meaning. Idioms are used less now because they do not integrate with modern language. Example: A leopard cant change its stripes: meaning you can not change who you are.
