Subscriber shelf supports three backplanes: MDCA: Supports broad/narrow-band integrated service access Mechanical support for all cards and works with the control and switch card MDCE: Supports pure broadband service access MDCF: Backplane works with the control and switch card to supports larger bandwidth, each slots bandwidth reaching up to 4 GE. Provides two 10G interface uplink slots. Splitter shelf supports only one backplane e.g. MTAN.
