Difference between Value & Values


VALUE
Refers to how useful or imp. something is.
Refers to orientation towards what is considered desirable.

VALUES
Refers to beliefs that affect an individuals judgmental ideas about what is good or bad.
The ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of a society toward which the people of the group have an affective regard. The motive force of our lives & the very core of our behavior. Building blocks which are used to form a firm structure.

The quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable.

Types of Values

Instrumental Values e.g.. Honesty, Cleanliness, Obedience, Courage etc.


Terminal Values e.g.. Happiness, Prosperity, Freedom, Security etc.

What Are Human Values?

Peoples beliefs, feelings & attitude towards things, situations or other people. The economic or moral value assigned to life in general. Play a central role in the life of every human being regardless of his/her cultural situation, gender, racial identity etc.

The Human Values evolve due to the following factors: 1. From the society. 2. Due to ones own awareness, choice & judgment. 3. By the teachings & practice of Preceptors (Gurus) or religious leader.

Must be practiced to promote oneself and to preserve mankind. Knowledge without values cant make a man useful. Human Values are like a lamp kept on a mound which illuminates the area.

What Is Ethics?

Ethics is the careful study of values to help us decide what we ought to do. The way in which values are acted out. Study of what is morally right & what is not. Addresses questions about morality. System of accepted beliefs which control behavior. The unwritten rules used to guide our conduct in everyday life. Refers to morals, values & beliefs of the individuals, family or the society.

To facilitate development of a Holistic perspective among student towards life, profession and happiness. To provide orientational input in Value Education. To increase ones ability to deal effectively with moral complexity in education practice. Intended to develop a set of beliefs, attitudes and habits that student should display concerning morality. Resolve the moral issues in the profession. To understand the moral values that ought to guide the
education profession.
