DEFORESTATION

Deforestation
Definition Process of illegal, clear-felling of trees done either for commercial or personal use. Clear felling: Is the technique of clear cutting of projected forest areas in a very short span of time.

Decrease in Green Zone

How? Illicit clear felling of trees Forest fire Why? Easy and cheap way to obtain timber Nature against nature

Construction: A curse for trees

Major projects
Dams Highways Pipelines Transmission lines

Minor projects for city expansion

Flyovers Buildings and many more

Wood as material
Timber used for construction For furniture Paper industry Stationery Packaging Purpose As fuel

World deforestation stats

13 million hectares of the world's forests are still lost each year.
Population GWT VS Deforestation as on 2009

Current statistics

Interference of Naxals
Forest activities are suppressed in naxal dominated areas
In Maharashtra : Chandrapur and Gadchiroli dist.

Co operation between local people and naxals Weapons are not provided to FD by govt., so cannot enter naxal areas.

The Dark Truth

Political interference in forest department. Encroachment by villagers.

Insufficient staff in department, no new recruitments. Unloyalty of some forest officers.

Objectives of Forest Dept.

Converting barren land into green zone forest. Converting in valuable forest into valuable forest. Conservation of forest wealth, ecology and wildlife. Protection and control on illicit felling of trees. Patrolling and vigilance. Legal actions taken by Forest dept.

EXTINCTION OF WILD ANIMALS

Destruction of natural habitats
Animals Birds Endangered species - Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) - Lion (Panthera leo persica) - Rhino (Rhinocerous unicornis) Endangered birds - Great Indian bustard (Maldhok) - Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)

NATURE KNOWS HOW TO GET BACK AT US, AND WE CAN INEVITABLY WAIT FOR MORE DISASTROUS EFFECTS IF HUMANS DO NOT STOP DESTROYING IT..

Consequences of Deforestation
Extinction of Thousands of Species Greenhouse Effect Tsunamis, hurricanes, typhoons Landslides, Heating of earths crust Volcanic Eruptions Ozone Depletion

Consequences of Deforestation
Soil erosion Acid rain Destruction of corals along the coast Changing climate

Questions
How green is my city, my country, my planet ? Will the next generation forgive us for what we are doing today? Do we ask our elected politicians about environment conservation? How long we will wait? How much time do we have?

Apocalypse
PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING FOR PEOPLE, WE ARE FIGHTING FOR THOSE LIVING ORGANISMS WHO CANT SPEAK.

ASK YOURSELF WITHIN

What have you done for the nature? How serious are you? What have you given back? Why you dont feel guilty? Why are we so selfish, greedy, ignorant?

Every individual can make a difference

Plant trees Population control Demand from politicians Maintain greenery Recycle materials (paper) Join an NGO Spread the word
