BO 6.x and BO XI R2 are different versions of BusinessObjects. BO 6.x uses a centralized database and repository that contains security and universe data and requires domains. BO XI R2 uses a repository database managed by the Central Management Console that does not require domains. Other differences include the applications used, how processes are configured, and the software architecture between the client, application, and processing tiers.
