Implementation of PWM Switching Scheme For A Coupled Inductor Based ZVT Buck/Boost Converter
Switching
: The controlling or routing of signals in circuits to execute logical or arithmetic operations or to transmit data between specific points in a network
TYPES OF SWITCHING
HARD SWITCHING SOFT SWITCHING
What is Soft-Switching
Switching transitions occur under favorable conditions device voltage or current is zero
Reduced switching losses, switch stress, possibly low EMI, easier thermal management A must for very high frequency operation, (also medium frequency at high power levels)
Usually involves compromises in conduction loss, switch rating, passive components etc.
SOFT SWITCHING: ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) ZCS (Zero Current Switching)
BUCK CONVERTER : OUTPUT VOLTAGE IS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO INPUT VOLTAGE BOOST CONVERTER : OUTPUT VOLTAGE IS GREATER THAN INPUT VOLTAGE
The buckboost converter is a type of DC-to-DC converter that has an output voltage magnitude that is either greater than or less than the input voltage magnitude.
The CUK converter is a type of DC-DC converter that has an output voltage magnitude that is either greater than or less than the input voltage magnitude. Single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) is a type of DC-DC conveter allowing the electrical potential (voltage) at its output to be greater than, less than, or equal to that at its input; the output of the SEPIC is controlled by the duty cycle of the control transistor. A SEPIC is similar to a traditional buck-boost converter, but has advantages of having noninverted output (the output has the same voltage polarity as the input)
Conclusion:
zero voltage transition is the technique which incorporate a Soft switching function into conventional PWMconverters in order to reduce switching losses ZVT PWM bidirectional converters with coupled inductors Will give soft switching condition for all semi conductors regardless of power flow direction. It also assures significant reduction in converter volume
