Task- based learning checklist

Pre task
Introduction to the topic, understanding the theme and objective of the task, not pre- teaching. Highlighting useful words or phrases.

Task

The task is done by students and it gives them the chances to think and say what they want. Teacher monitors, supports and help students, he also motivates students and help them to formulate things.

Planning

Prepares students to report how they performed the task while the teacher goes around polishing their work and giving suggestions to correct their language.

Report
Post task listening

Students report briefly to compare findings, the teacher give comments and rephrases things but gives not overt public correction.

Students listen to a recording of fluent speakers doing the same task, and compare the ways in which they did the task themselves.

Language focus

Teacher set some languagefocused task, based on the texts students have read or on the transcripts of the recording they have heard.
Teacher starts analyzing the language based on what he have already set in the language focus stage and then students continue with the analysis. Teacher reviews the analysis and possibly write some relevant language in the board to take advantage of it. Teacher conducts practice exercises based on the language analysis. These activities can involve: Choral repetition Sentence completion Dictionary reference work

Follow- up

Students could repeat the same oral task but with different partners, go back through the task material and write down new language they noticed or discuss how they felt about the task.
