Coming Revolution: Submited by

This document describes a microcontroller-based driverless metro train project. The train uses an AT89C51 microcontroller as the CPU to control the motion of the train via a stepper motor. Infrared sensors are used for anti-collision detection and automatic opening/closing of the train doors. The train is programmed to stop at three stations - Roorkee, Saharanpur, and Meerut - with predefined stoppage times and distances between stations. The project aims to demonstrate the technology behind driverless trains and help passengers without requiring a driver.

COMING REVOLUTION

This

project is designed for the student to

make them understand the technology used in a now a days driver less metro train which is used in most of the developed countries like Germany ,Japan and France etc .

This project is the microcontroller based driver

less metro train with features like anti collision

detection and automatic opening and closing of doors.

These trains are equipped with the CPU, which

control the train.

The train is programmed for the specific path. Every station on the path is defined, stoppage timing of the train and distance between the two

stations is predefined.

Anti collision detection sensor is an infrared sensor.

It provides an anti-collision safety for vehicles travelling on tracks, without any driving personnel, that

is to say, a device which itself can estimate risks and

react in consequence.

Automatic opening & closing of door is also made

using IR sensor.

A stepper motor is connected to this sensor for the doors of the train.

ICs used: AT89c51 microcontroller Uln 2003 chip Resistors used: R1 10 kilo-ohms R 4.7 kilo-ohms R3 220 ohms R4 220 ohms Vr 10 kilo-ohms Capacitors used: C 33 pico farads (ceramic disk)

Other components required: Two line LCD display Unipolar stepper motor Two light emitting diodes Crystal oscillator 12MHz Sensor input Sensor output Fabrication tools required: Permanent marker Etching solution (ferrous chloride) Drilling machine Cutter Soldering machine

In this project microcontroller 89c51 is used as CPU.

The motion of the train is controlled by the

Stepper Motor.

Motor is derived by ULN 2003 chip so that motor can get enough current for its running.

The train is designed for three stations, named as

Roorkee, Saharanpur, and Meerut.

The Stoppage time is of 3 Sec and time between two consecutive stations is 6 sec.

There is a LCD display for showing various messages

in the train for passengers.

There are indicators, which are used to show the train direction i.e. UP path and Down path.

Before stopping at station the train blows the buzzer. It also includes an emergency brake system due to

which the train stops as soon as the brakes are

applied and resumes journey when the emergency situation is over.

Anti collision detection sensor is an infrared

sensor.

It senses the gap between the tracks of the train and

obstruction in its way.

The sensor on the train compare its relative distance of the obstruction with its stopping distance and

causes the vehicle to stop when the relative distance

is smaller than the stopping distance.

This stops the train automatically and train blows the

buzzer.

Automatic

opening and closing of doors is

designed using an infrared sensor.

A

stepper motor is connected to this sensor

that shows the motion of the doors i.e. closing

of the door and opening of the door.
The

motor starts running when the gate opens

or closes.

Very Cost

economical .
effective.

No

cabling on the track required

(which is more expensive).

The

human error is eliminated as it

does not require any inputs.
