"Shapes and Forms" Humanities

Shapes refers to two-dimensional areas defined by elements of art. There are two classes of shapes: geometric and organic. Geometric shapes have straight edges and include circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles. Organic shapes are free-form and irregular, like clouds or pebbles. Form applies to the overall three-dimensional design of a work of art and can be closed, containing the viewer's eyes within the frame, or open, implying the scene continues outside the frame. Architecture also uses shapes like circles, triangles, and squares in its designs. Forms can be regular with consistent symmetrical parts or irregular with unrelated asymmetrical elements.
