Java 1 Introduction Girish

Java was created by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems in 1995 under the name Oak. It is an object-oriented, platform-independent language designed to be simple, secure, and distributed. The Java Development Kit (JDK) has gone through several versions that introduced new features like Swing and JNDI. Java code is compiled to bytecode, then interpreted and executed by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) on any device, allowing developers to "write once, run anywhere."
