Java was created by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems in 1995 under the name Oak. It is an object-oriented, platform-independent language designed to be simple, secure, and distributed. Developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems. Released the first public implementation as Java 1.0 in 1995. The language was initially called Oak. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere.
