IMA Group: Inverse multiplexing over ATM (IMA) Group is a collection of physical links grouped to form a higher-bandwidth logical link and assigned to an ATM port SAAL Link: Signaling ATM Adaptation layer for signaling, it supports connection control signaling. NCP/CCP: NBAP (Node B Application Part) [1] is the signaling protocol responsible for the control of the Node B by the RNC. NBAP is subdivided into Common and Dedicated NBAP (C-NBAP and D-NBAP), where Common NBAP controls overall Node B functionality, and Dedicated NBAP controls radio links to specific user equipment. NBAP forms part of the Iub interface. In order for NBAP to handle common and dedicated procedures, it is divided into: NodeB Control Port (NCP) which handles common NBAP procedures and Communication Control Port (CCP) which handles dedicated NBAP procedures. ALCAP: Access link control Application part Basic functionality of ALCAP is multiplexing of different users onto one AAL2 transmission path using channel IDs (CIDs). ATM Address (NSAP): Network service access point. VCI :( Virtual Circuit Identifier) VPI: Virtual path Identifier: It is a 16-bit field in the header of an ATM cell. The VCI, together with the Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on its way to its destination. AAL2Path: Aal2 path is the transport for UTRAN. 1 speech call AMR requires 2 Aal2 connections. The ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) relays ATM cells between ATM Layer and higher layer. When relaying information received from the higher layers, it segments the data into ATM cells. When relaying information received from the ATM Layer, it must reassemble the payloads into a format the higher layers can understand. This operation, which is called Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR), is the main task of AAL. Constant Bit Rate (CBR) service: AAL1 supports a connection-oriented service in which the bit rate is constant. Examples of this service include 64 Kbit/sec voice, fixed-rate uncompressed video and leased lines for private data networks. Variable Bit Rate (VBR) service: AAL2 supports a connection-oriented service in which the bit rate is variable but requires a bounded delay for delivery. Examples of this service include compressed packetized voice or video. The requirement on bounded delay for delivery is necessary for the receiver to reconstruct the original uncompressed voice or video. Scrambling Code: UL Scrambling code is assigned by RNC to UE. Each user one UL Scrambling code will assign DL Scrambling codes are assigned by NodeB.Each cell one DL Scrambling code will be assigned. LAC: Location Area code of Cell need to Define in MSC. SAC: Service Area Code also needs to define in MSC.
SF(Spreading Factor)=No. of chips per data symbol SF = chip rate / symbol rate High data rates low SF code Low data rates high SF code PDCP: IP Header compression, and decompression
Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) This is responsible for the transmission and reception of radio network layer protocol data units (PDUs). Within UMTS, several different network layer protocols are supported to transparently transmit protocols. At the moment, IPv4 and IPv6 are supported, but UMTS must be open to other protocols without forcing the modification of UTRAN protocols. This transparent transmission is one task of PDCP; another is to increase channel efficiency (by protocol header compression, for example).
BMC: Main function is to deliver cell broadcast messages to its upper layers such as NAS.
Broadcast/Multicast Control (BMC) This offers broadcast/multicast services in the user plane. For instance, it stores SMS CB messages and transmits them to the UE.
NBAP Node B Application Part is a Layer-3 protocol at the Iub interface. NBAP functions are divided into two groups, namely common and dedicated NBAP procedures. Common NBAP procedures are used to create new user equipment (UE) contexts and control BCCH broadcast information. The Iub always contains one signalling link for the common NBAP procedures, and there may be several signalling links for dedicated NBAP procedures. RNSAP The Iur interface procedures are controlled by the RNSAP signalling protocol. The most important procedures are naturally involved in: radio link set-up radio link addition radio link reconfiguration and radio link deletion.
