So... What is a Pimp? "Wow, that guy's such a pimp," is not something one hears every day.

Especially in rural New Hampshire. That is simply due to the fact that there is not a large number of prostitutes in New Hampshire, hence, the low number of pimps. The way the word was used as a noun above, is practically the only way to use the word as a noun. One could rearrange the sentence even if they used other words, but it would accomplish the same thing. Unlike many slang words, the word pimp has only one meaning. One who solicits women to men in exchange for money. In other words, a pimp is a man who could often be found at a brothel or 'whore house' or somewhere else with a high population of prostitutes. A pimp is to a prostitute as an actor is to a manager. A pimp controls all of the prostitute's earnings and part of the money goes to the pimp himself because of his job finding the work. And yes, it is interesting how only male pronouns are being used, and how pimps are only referred to as males. Realizing that in this world of gender equality, all jobs can be for women or men. Having said that, if you find a female pimp, let me know. Many slang words, like cool, or sweet, have multiple meanings, the denotation and the slang connotation, and the meaning changes depending on the situation. This does not hold true for the word pimp. Unlike many other slang words the word pimp only came about because of the slang definition. Each letter in the word actually has it's own meaning. For instance: Person Into Marketing Prostitutes. P. I. M. P. Simple as that (Webster's). Pimp does not have an innocent definition as a noun, that is recognized by any major dictionary, just the one. However, the severity of the term has been somewhat dulled down by the current generation of teens, to have a second meaning that is no where near as inappropriate as the denotation. Teens have been starting to use the word, not just for someone who markets prostitutes, but also for a guy who hangs out with lots

of girls, or even has multiple girl friends. For instance, a guy who walks around with multiple girls literally hanging from his every limb, would be a pimp. A guy who walks around with multiple girls, but one at a time, would be a pimp. Even a guy who just hangs out with a lot of girls can be considered a pimp. That is how much the severity of this word has come down from the original meaning. Pimp, like many words, and slang words, can also be used as a verb, as well as a noun. The word pimping, or more frequently used, pimpin' is used to describe the action of a guy hanging out with lots of girls. But also, pimp can be used to describe the act of redecorating something in a swag like fashion. For instance, the show Pimp My Ride, is about taking old cars and completely redesigning them to portray a much cooler design than the original. The word pimp is no longer used much in this sense, and really when describing a guy, it is only used in the prostitution sense. Not many people use the word pimp anymore, in any sense of the word, as there are many better words to use, such as dude or bro, that couldn't be defined as someone who sells women for sex. That would be an awkward confusion among friends. When it comes down to it, slang terms are used to make talking easier. However, with this inconvenience of confusing the multiple meanings, it is much harder to use. For this reason, this word is no longer used in the slang sense, and is now, more or less, only used for the meaning of one who sells women to men for sex.
