No 1 2 3 4 Topic Natural Numbers Whole Numbers Division Divisor and Factor Description The counting numbers 1, 2, 3, are called natural numbers If we include the number 0 to the set of natural numbers, we get 0, 1, 2, 3, . Dividend = divisor quotient + remainder Division by zero is not a permissible operation in whole numbers.
The whole numbers which are multiples of 2 are called even numbers. 6 Odd Numbers The whole numbers which are not multiple of 2 are called odd numbers. 7 Prime Numbers The natural numbers which have only two divisors are called prime numbers. ft So 8 Composite Numbers The natural numbers which have more than two divisors are called am the composite numbers. ar ig Tip: 1 is neither prime nor composite )S 9 Exponential Form (c
Even Numbers
Tip: The square of an odd number is odd. The square of an even number is even. The cube of an odd number is odd. The cube of an even number is even. The square of a prime number other than 2 is odd 10 Great Common Divisors Two numbers may have several common divisors. The largest (GCD) among them is called the greatest common divisors (g.c.d) of the numbers.
G.C.D. is also known as the highest common factor (H.C.F.) Ex: G.C.D of 12 and 16
11
The smallest among the common multiples of two numbers is called their least common multiple (l.c.m.) Ex: L.C.M of 30 and 12

Proper Fraction
Fig 1 : 2 / 4 Fig 2: 1 / 4 If the numerator is less than its denominator, the fraction is called a proper fraction.

In a classroom there are 25 boys and 15 girls. What is the ratio between the number of boys and the number of girls?
26
The order in the ratio is very important. For example, the ratio of number of boys to number of girls is different from the ratio of the number of girls to the number of boys. The cost of a notebook is Rs. 20 and the cost of a pen is Rs. 15. What is the ratio between the cost of a notebook and the cost of a pen?
