Geometry Quotes

A circle is a round straight line with a hole in the middle. "Geometry is just plane fun." "The only angle from which to approach a problem is the TRY-Angle" "The shortest distance between two points is under construction." -- Bill Sanderson "Geometry is the science of correct reasoning on incorrect figures." - George Polya "Without geometry life is pointless." I heard that parallel lines actually do meet, but they are very discrete. "Geometry is the foundation of all painting." -- Albrecht Durer "Bees by virtue of a certain geometrical forethought know that the hexagon is greater than the square and the triangle, and will hold more honey for the same expenditure of material." -- Pappas "I am persuaded that this method [for calculating the volume of a sphere] will be of no little service to mathematics. For I foresee that once it is understood and established, it will be used to discover other theorems which have not yet occurred to me, by other mathematicians, now living or yet unborn." -Archimedes "Everything tries to be round." -- Black Elk "Where there is matter, there is geometry." -- Johannes Kepler "Inspiration is needed in geometry, just as much as in poetry." -- Aleksander Pushkin

Analysis / Comments:

Use of Geometry Quotes / Creative Questions There are times we need to lighten the mood of students for them to appreciate the beauty of mathematics. One of the possible activities that a teacher can put into action is by deviating from what is normally being done. This kind of approach can somehow help the students gain better understanding and also to realize the student teacher participation in the learning environment. Quotes and creative questions are basically patterned from real life experiences or from various mathematical facts, thus, it is highly commendable to utilize and explore the ideas in the context. However, injecting this kind of approach needs creativity, subjectivity and a good riddance on the part of implementer to avoid gap in the learning process. The teacher should also be very keen on feeding the students with what are considered to be factual and / or fallacies implied therein. Misleading information will only lead to complexity or dilapidated thoughts among receivers. Use of Arts Relative to the Topic Learners have varied intellectual preferences, but even so, one can easily be attracted to any form of artistic creation. Arts defy everything. The use of arts as one of the teaching aids is really of great importance to connect with the students. By letting them see the proofs underlying the optical illusion is another good way to enhance interaction with students.
