Project Introduction: "LIBRARY MANAGEMENT" of Gives Us The Complete Information

This document describes a proposed library management system. The system would allow librarians to enter new books into the catalog and track books that have been issued to students. It would also maintain records of late fees for returned books. The system is intended to make library management easier and more efficient by automating common tasks and providing updated information to administrators.

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

This project of LIBRARY MANAGEMENT of gives us the complete information about the library. We can enter the record of new books and retrieve the details of books available in the library. We can issue the books to the students and maintain their records and can also check how many books are issued and stock available in the library. In this project we can maintain the late fine of students who returns the issued books after the due date. Throughout the project the focus has been on presenting information and comments in an easy and intelligible manner. The project is very useful for those who want to know about Library Management System. The Library Management System is designed & developed for a receipt and issuance of books in the library along with the students details. The books received in the library are entered in Books Entry form and the new student is entered in the student entry form.

INTRODUCTION OF THE ORGANIZATION

Public libraries are in service for more than six decades in Nepal. There are many public/community libraries registered in Nepal. Moreover, those which are functional are either poorly equipped or do not have the resources or the means to cater to the needs of a modern society. Following the definition of UNESCO/IFLA, public libraries are not yet established in Kathmandu. The need for a public library service that not only is well organized and equipped but also is tailored to meet the needs of the Nepali people in the 21st century was discussed among the academicians, educationist, diplomats, politicians, lawyers, industrialists and journalists in June 2003. The meeting decided to form a committee for the establishment of a modern library in Kathmandu. The committee formed the Society for Kathmandu Valley Public Library. This Society was registered with the government on 25 September 2003. The idea for a central public library seems to be gaining unanimous public acceptance. The Society started the public library in a limited way both in respect of housing the readership and providing public services at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu from 9 July 2005. The Society is overwhelmed by the ever-increasing public response in its favor. People of every walk have expressed their appreciation and support for the initiatives. Within a very short period of time distinguished personalities such as former prime ministers of Nepal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, senior leaders of various political parties, former ambassadors and academics have visited the library and donated their collections. We are also encouraged by the support we have been receiving from the diplomatic community.

Problem Analysis/Identification of problem

Some of the problems that we usually find in a library are listed below:

Tediousness for the librarian to remember the detail information of books stored in the library. Intricateness to remember every act occurred in the library like issue of books, return of books, reservation of books etc. Difficulty for management to take any decisions related to library as up-to-date information is not provided to them. Time consuming.

This kind of problem when arises in a library, there is need of an information system. Therefore, in our project we will try to design a new system that will solve these problems. With the help of new information system it will be easy to track records of books in stock, issued and returned by a simple click. Automatic updates will be possible. Therefore a good library information system will assist the main librarian and the managers to decide on different matters for e.g. they can decide which books are necessary to buy on the basis of demand of books. They can easily know which books are required by the people and hence they can make those books available in near future. It will be more informative for management processes.

CONCLUSION

Information plays a critical factor for any organization may it be a profit oriented or a service oriented organization. Most of the schools, colleges and many other educational institutions have a library of itself. With the growing popularity of computerized system, among many of them, it may be in use. Though we have designed the library information system keeping in mind the requirements of this organization, it will also prove beneficial also to those organizations who lack a proper information system. During our project we have tried our level best to design an information system that will minimize most of the problems but there is always a way for improvement. In our future if given an opportunity we will surely make it better than now.

During the project we were able to analyze the matter of MIS in more practical manner. We have now become more confident about this subject than before. More than that, it gave us an opportunity to learn about new programs as well. Besides using usual Microsoft Word, Excel, visual basic and all we learned Microsoft office Visio 2003.
