Past Simple and Present Perfect
The Present Perfect is the tense that links the past with the present. Past Simple Present Perfect (have / has + past participle) For past habits or states: For actions or states in the past which have a Long ago, they built most houses out of connection with the present: wood. Present Perfect Simple & Present Perfect Continuous We use the Present Perfect Continuous (have / has + been + verb ing) to talk about actions which started in the past and which continue up to the moment of speaking. We use it especially when we are interested in the duration of the action: Ive been waiting for a whole hour! Notice the difference between: Ive done my homework / Ive been doing my homework. The Present Perfect Simple emphasizes the idea of completion (=the homework is finished); we use the Continuous form to indicate that the action has lasted for a period and is incomplete. Compare: Ive read the newspaper today (=Ive finished it) Ive been reading the Encyclopaedia Britannica (=I havent finished yet)

COMPOUND ADJECTIVES A compound adjective has two parts. We usually write it with a hyphen: red-haired, green-eyed. The second part of the compound adjective is often: a present participle (tight-fitting, good-looking), a past participle (oldfashioned, well-built, badly-maintained), a preposition (broken-down, well-off), another adjective (brand-new, duty-free).
