PRISMA - SDL Trados Studio 2009 review functions- ver. 1.

0 (September 2011)

1. RETRIEVING MATCHING TM DATA WHEN TRANSLATING: CONCORDANCE UTILITY USE

Select the desired word/s - i.e. the text whose translation into target language you would like to retrieve within your translation memory (TM) data - in a left column cell, then press F3 key: if the selected text is included in the TM you are currently using, the segment containing it will be displayed with the relevant translation into target language.

2. FINAL CHECKS BEFORE DELIVERY

All translators are strictly required, before final delivery to PRISMA Project Managers (PMs), to perform a whole series of specific checks, as described below in details. IMPORTANT! Taking into account auto-propagation function default settings (with reference to provided User Profile profilo prisma.sdlprofile file), we strongly suggest to follow the procedure indicated below, in order to make sure that no segment is unintentionally skipped during your final check activity. Should you wish to modify or update any existing translation when reviewing it, please NEVER PRESS CTRL+ENTER (Confirm and move to Next Unconfirmed Segment): instead, use always Confirm and Move to Next Segment option. At any rate, by accessing Tools / Options / Keyboard Shortcuts youll be able to check the corresponding shortcut and, if necessary, to change it:

2.1 Using Display Filter bar New translated content option (if the bar is not displayed, please go to View / Toolbars and check Display Filter option to make it appear) By means of the New translated content option available on this bar you can carry out a selective revision of your translation, since it allows to display and check only the segments you have just translated (thus hiding the ones which were already included in your TM before current project start):

2.2 Fuzzy-match segment check Select the Fuzzy matches option from the Display Filter bar for displaying exclusively the sentences you obtained on the basis of previous translations of similar segments:

PERFORM A THOROUGH REVIEW OF SUCH SEGMENTS by comparing source language text (to the left) with the corresponding target language text (to the right). When doing so, please take into account that, for example in technical translations, fuzzy-match parts are most likely subject to mistakes. 2.3 Spell check Upon translation completion, an accurate spell check must be carried out on each translated file by using F7 key. Should any change be introduced into a translated file as a result of such spell check activity, the procedure below shall be followed in order to update current TM data accordingly: go back to the beginning of document (file) you have just spell-checked and press CTRL+ENTER (mouse pointer will then stop at the beginning of each changed segment), and press CTRL+ENTER again for confirming all inserted amendments.

2.4 Unconfirmed segment check Another important check to be executed on translated files is retrieving all segments which have not yet been confirmed, if any. For this purpose, select the Display Filter bar Unconfirmed segments option:

Should there be one or more unconfirmed segments, be sure to verify and confirm them: as a rule, before translation final delivery all relevant segments must be duly confirmed (i.e. saved in the corresponding TM). Besides, we suggest our translators to perform at this stage further formal checks before transmitting translated packages to their PRISMA PMs. In order to do so, please press F8 key. Youll find here below the correct procedures relevant to both number check and tag check. 2.5 Number check In case a number in target language text differs from the corresponding one included in source language text, the relevant error message will be displayed in a dialogue box. If you click on this message, the segment to be amended will appear. Once number correction has been carried out, press CTRL+ENTER to confirm: the error message above will then disappear:

Repeat the same procedure for all displayed error messages. 2.6 Tag check Should there be one or more segments in which a target language text tag differs from the corresponding one included in source language text, the relevant error message will be displayed in a dialogue box. If you click on this message, the segment to be amended will appear:

If necessary, select the following option in the toolbar which will appear in the top right area of the screen, in order to have those tags displayed as numbers. That will make your amendment work easier:

For amending wrong tags, if any, first of all make sure that they are not protected (Format / Protect Tags option mustnt be selected). In order to copy tags from source language text to target language one you can: use standard MS Windows copy (CTRL+C) & paste (CTRL+V) functions, or click directly in target language text cell and use CTRL+ALT+ (down arrow) key combination; in this case, system will automatically suggest the tag which most likely suits the current situation, thus highlighting it as shown in the example below:

If necessary, use (down arrow key) or then press ENTER to insert it.

(up arrow key) for selecting the preferred tag,

Finally, press CTRL+ENTER to confirm the amendment you introduced: the corresponding error message will then disappear. Repeat the same procedure for all displayed error messages.
