the updates that were not present in the previous service packs or, it can be cumulative, which means it includes the contents of all its predecessors. For example, Office 2000 must be upgraded to service release 1 (SR-1) before one can install SP2. Vista Service Pack 2 also is not cumulative and requires at least SP1 to be present on an installed copy of Windows Vista. . Windows XP SP3 requires at least SP1 to be present (although SP2 is recommended) on an installed copy of Windows XP, although slipstreaming SP3 into the gold release is still supported.
Effects on Software:
Application service packs replace existing files with updated. If, at a later time, additional components are added to the software using the original media, there is a risk of accidentally mixing older and updated components. Depending on the operating system and deployment methods, it may then be necessary to manually reinstall the service pack after each such change to the software. , Microsoft implemented a deployment strategy to prevent this (setup programs are
redirected to use updated service pack files, instead of files from original installation media, where necessary)
Windows 7 SP1:
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) was announced on March 18, 2010. A beta was released on July 12, 2010. The final version was released to the public on February 9, 2011. At the time of release, it was not made mandatory. Tech net has information on blocking it, or getting it via Windows Update, direct download, or by ordering the Windows 7 SP1 DVD Microsoft confirmed that the service pack is to be on a much smaller scale than those released for previous versions of Windows. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 adds support for Advanced Vector Extensions , a 256-bit instruction set extension for processors, and improves IKEv2 by adding additional identification fields such as E-mail ID to it. In addition, it adds support for Advanced Format 512e as well as additional Identity Federation Services. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 also resolves a bug related to HDMI audio and another related to printing XPS documents. Some programs have compatibility issues with SP1 and a limited number of programs may experience a loss of functionality.
Windows 7 SP2:
Windows 7 Service Pack 2 release date in the middle of 2012. There are still some updates we'd like to see in Windows 7 beyond bug fixes. SP2 could include direct support for USB 3.0 and Super Speed. so OEMs don't have to install specific drivers. We can't expect any of the major advances planned for Windows 8 to arrive in SP2. Gesture control for Media Center, games or web browsing would be improved in the SP2. We can expect some extra hardware support.
