Custom Colors and Compounds by Penn Color, Inc. Extrusion Solution by ENTEK
Custom colors and compounds are Penn Colors business, and have been for over 40 years. This privately-held company continues to lead the way in the development of color solutions for masterbatches for the plastics industry, for a wide variety of resins. Five years ago, Penn Color went looking for an extruder supplier to help them upgrade their capabilities. They chose ENTEK, and since then they have purchased numerous ENTEK E-MAX twin-screw extruders. From initial trials at ENTEKs in-house lab
to test multiple formulations, to the significant time savings realized due to the fast color change abilities of the E-MAX during production runs, to the fast turnaround of spare parts and expedited shipments for ongoing productivity, Penn Color is a believer in the ENTEK difference. ENTEKs commitment to service is helping Penn Color succeed. Contact us today to find out how we can help you achieve your goals!

Norman J. Wagner Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor, Center for Molecular and Engineering Thermodynamics, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Delaware STF Armor: Nanoparticle Composite Textiles and Performance Plastics for Flexible Ballistic & PunctureProtective Materials Leading an active research group at the University of Delaware, Professor Wagner pursues studies in the fields of rheology, complex fluids, particle technology, nanotechnology, and molecular science. He recently received the Paul A. Siple Memorial Award from the U.S. Army for his research on applications of shearthickening fluids for ballistic-resistant nanocomposite materials, jointly with scientists from the Army Research Labs. Professor Wagner is currently on sabbatical as a visiting professor of soft condensed matter physics at the University of Rome. He was a Senior Fulbright Scholar at the University of Konstanz, Germany, and a guest professor at the ETH, Zurich. He has over 90 publications in internationally recognized journals and is active in the Society of Rheology and AIChE (among other organizations). Dr. Wagner received his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. from Princeton University. Presentation Abstract: Novel ballistic-, stab- and puncture-resistant flexible composite materials are synthesized from colloidal and nanoparticle dispersions exhibiting shear thickening, i.e., shear-thickening fluids (STFs). STFs are intercalated in aramid and other performance textiles. Through ballistic, stab & laboratory testing, the mechanism of energy adsorption at ballistic rates is demonstrated to result from reversible shear thickening. NIJ standard testing shows the performance enhancement of the composites. Control of particle size, size distribution, shape, surface and bulk properties in the synthesis is shown to be critical to performance. Melt blending of STFs with elastomers yields new materials, known as STFsuspoemulsions, with exceptional tear resistance. Potential applications of these dispersions as novel energy-absorbing materials are discussed.

ABOUT CINCINNATI
With more than 100 attractions, Cincinnati has something for every member of the family! In a recent Zagat Survey of the top 25 attractions in the United States, Cincinnati had three that made the list: Newport on the Levee, the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and the Newport Aquarium. The only city with more top 25 attractions was New York, and you can visit Cincinnati for half the price! Cincinnati raises more than $10 million annually with its Fine Arts Fund. The result? Hundreds of performances, exhibits, and classical concerts are offered throughout the year. The city is home to the Cincinnati Art Museum, which was rated in the 2004 Zagat survey as one of the best art museums in the United States. Based on this thriving arts scene, Cincinnati was voted as the Number Five Arts Destination in the United States by American Style Magazine. You can also catch a Cincinnati Reds game at the state-of-the-art Great American Ball Park, and visit the Reds Hall of Fame Museum while youre there. Home to more than 4,000 restaurants, Cincinnati offers everything from burgers to Vietnamese spring rolls, and has more chili restaurants than any other city in the world! From indulging in the elegance of Jean-Robert at Pigalls, to enjoying a scoop of homemade Graeters Ice Cream, your taste buds will be happy you came to Cincinnati!

New MaxiBatch Blender, Maguires largest blender at 8000 lbs/hr is ideal for compounders (i.e. wood composite applications). It can handle up to twelve ingredients including powders.
Upgraded MicroBlender, Maguire's smallest blender; stainless steel hoppers; enhanced mix blade/static dam; improved handling of poorly flowing materials.
When Steve Maguire popularized the gravimetric batch blender in the 80s, he started out small, working from his house. From those early blenders, the line has grown both larger and smaller; big and little, if you will. Now, the new Maxi Batch is the largest volume blender at 8000 lbs/hr and the littlest one- the Micro Blender- is still wellmicro. The concept however remains the same, actually improving through field trials. The real-world test is having 30,000 units installed worldwide.

U.S. Patent 6,154,980. Other U.S. and International patents pending.
Steve Maguire remembers his days as a processor and the ever-present pressure to produce. Technology, after all, is supposed to work for you, not against you. Thats why Maguire sees blender logic as the gateway to process control in the future. Accuracy, precise dosing, economy of materials never go out of fashion. And little things count, especially as resin costs rise. So the big story is really about combining productivity with savings. Why not make a little move today and contact us? Who knows? It could make a big difference.
