Title:
An investigation of an autosuggest tool to improve the efficiency of word processing in windows.
Introduction
This progress report intends to relate the developments made on the project entitled An investigation of an autosuggest tool to improve the efficiency of word processing in windows. The significance of this project is to implement a generalized autosuggest tool that will aid in making the users task
easier when performing typing related activities by reducing the number of keystrokes needed, hence saving the user time and energy. These developments span a period from March 23rd, 2012 to
June 29th 2012 and are listed below: Background project research Previous work research Submission of Progress Report 1 Design a model for autosuggest application Research on best technology to use Development Phase 1 Development Phase 2 Development Phase 3

Progress Summary Since submitting my project proposal, I have spent most of my research time obtaining and reading sources for my project background and for previous work done in relation to my project. In my research I have found a number of persons/organizations who have realized the need of autosuggest technology to solve various problems in computing. Google has implemented an Autocomplete/Autosuggest technology which is integrated in its search engine. This technology is designed to help users to complete their search queries faster by providing a list of possible queries that the user may choose form. TypeBooster has developed an autocomplete desktop application for the windows platform. This application is designed to automatically complete words by suggesting the remaining characters when the user starts typing. Microsoft Office has implemented an integrated autocomplete feature in Microsoft Words which performs similarly to the TypeBooster application. Windows also has a limited autocomplete feature which remembers commonly visited directory paths and saved file names.
Remaining work There is still a lot of work needed to be done towards the completion of this project. The next step involves writing the Formal Proposal which will be due in two weeks. This will be done alongside with the design for the autosuggest application. This will be followed up by a research into which technology will be best suited for the implementation of the application. The next stage will involve the implementation of the application which will be done in three phases. The first phase is expected to last approximately two weeks after which the Progress Report 2 will be due. The next four weeks will include phase 2 and phase 3 of the development of the application. The last stage will be will be the project presentation.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Ergonomics and Repetitive Strain Injury Desk Research conducted by StrategyOne for Microsoft April 2008 Repetitive Strain Injury, commonly known as RSI, is the umbrella term for a number of upper limb disorders. According to this research paper Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI can be caused by repeating the same sequence of movements many times an hour or day and the best example would be typing on a keyboard. OBrien, J. & Marakas, G. (2011).Management Information System, 10e. New York, NY. McGraw-Hill Irwin This paper was published based on a study which was conducted to prove that typing for long periods is a problem which is hazardous to the health of an individual. The study was carried out to prove that typing for long hours on a regular basis can result in musculoskeletal problems. It focused mre on the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) disorder which is the biggest medical problem associated with Computer-related work. Dan Perez, Mark Heslip, Sherry Fong: sf-chiro.com Tendonitis (also spelled tendinits) is a painful condition involving inflammation of tendons. And according to the above source, tendonitis can be caused by repetitve movements of a tendon, such as when typing on a keyboard for a long period of time. iTendonitis.com, Free Tendonitis and Joint Injury Info Taken from the above source, wrist tendonitis, also known as tenosynovitis, is a common wrist condition characterized by irritation, pain and inflammation of the tendons around the wrist joint. According to this source wrist tendonitis is caused by repetitive use. The condition is common amongst people that work with computers (in particular people who use the mouse a lot. eg, designers).
Conclusion With respect to the progression of this project I can say that everything is going according to schedule.
