Employment Opportunity Building Inspector

Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development, the incumbent shall be responsible for the administration, implementation and operation of the Building Inspections Division as it relates to the design, construction and occupancy of new buildings, and the alteration, re-construction, demolition, removal, relocation and occupancy of existing buildings. The Building Inspector shall be responsible for ensuring compliance with National Building Codes, Municipal By-laws and other applicable laws. They shall perform plan reviews, issue Building Permits, and maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections and investigations. The ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications: Diploma/Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, or Building Technology Certified Building Official through a provincial building officials association A minimum of 2 years experience as a Building Inspector. Excellent computer, presentation and interpersonal skills The ability to deal effectively, courteously and tactfully with the general public, government officials, contractors and construction industry professionals is necessary The ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset Previous experience in a municipal setting is an asset The ability to manage and maintain a budget is an asset

Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered. The starting salary for this position is $64,399.06 and a Settlement allowance of $20,907.44 per annum with an excellent benefits package. The closing date for this position is May 8, 2012
