1.1. Introduction to computer

• What is computer?
▪ Is an electronic device that accept input data from user and process to give an output data and
store.
▪ Is one of an electronic Machine.

- Is the physical or tangible parts of computer.
- There are five parts or include in the hardware
Input device :-
o Is a device that accept data from user is called input device.
o hardware components used to insert data or information into computer.
o Example:- Mouse, keyboard, Webcam,….etc.

Process device:-
o is convert data into information.
o Is called a central processor, main processor or just processor
o usually called a processor that serves as the ‘brain’ of the computer.
o is the electronic circuitry that executes instructions comprising a computer
program.
o The computer processer is called CPU ( central process unit)

Output device:-
o Is the device used to display data or information to the user.
o Is any hardware device used to send data from a computer to another
device or user
o Usually, most output peripherals are meant for human use, so they receive
the processed data from the computer and transform it in the form of audio,
video, or physical reproductions
o Example:- Printer, monitor, speaker, projector,…etc.
 Storage device:-
o Is the device that used to store or hold data into computer.
o There are two

Primary or internal:-

Also known as main memory.

• Main memory is directly or indirectly connected to the central

processing unit via a memory bus.

The CPU continuously reads instructions stored there and executes them
as required.

• Example:

– RAM (random access memory)

– ROM (read only memory)
– Cache

Secondary or external
It is not directly accessible by the CPU.
• Computer usually uses its input/output channels to access secondary
storage and transfers the desired data using intermediate area in
primary storage.

• Example:

– Hard disk
– Flash
– CD, DVD

Communication device:-
▪ Is the device that used to communicate the monitor to system unit.
▪ Connect computer components.
▪ Example:-
• VGA ( video graphics array)
• Power supply

o Is intangible parts of computer.
- the set of instructions used to direct the operation of a computer.
- as well as documentation giving instructions on how to use them.
- There are two kinds of thing that in include Software.
 Application Software:-
▪ Is the software that has single purpose.
▪ Example:- imo, what’s, telegram, Facebook, word,…etc.
Operating system
▪ It is system software
▪ it is a set of master programs that keeps the computer system
working.
▪ The communication between a user and a system takes place with
the help of an operating systems.
▪ Example :- Windows, Linux, ubuntu, apple macOS, Google’s android
OS, apple iOS.
