Graduate Coursework Scholarships 2012

The Melbourne Scholarships Program aims to reward and provide access to a world class university for the best Australian and international students. The following is a quick reference guide to the scholarships available to local, international and travelling undergraduate students. Details are correct at time of printing. Local Students

Graduate Access Bursaries


$5000 one-off payment in the first year of enrolment. Number: up to 200

How to Apply and Closing Date: For application procedures please contact the appropriate Graduate School.

Eligible students must belong to one or more of the following categories: Recognition as an Indigenous Australian; Previous status as a refugee or current holder of a Humanitarian Visa; Rural or isolated background; Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances; Disability or chronic medical condition. In addition they must have demonstrated the capacity to successfully undertake a graduate professional degree and apply for a Commonwealth Supported Place in a professional entry graduate degree.

Maisie Fawcett Scholarships

How to Apply and Closing Date: No scholarship application is required. All VU graduates accepted into the Graduate Access Program will automatically be considered by their graduate school.

Eligible students must have completed an undergraduate degree at Victoria University (priority will be given to students enrolling immediately following undergraduate studies) and be accepted into the Graduate Access Program. See criteria categories in the Graduate Access Bursaries section above.

Eleanor and Joseph Wertheim Scholarships


$20,000 (approx.) annual allowance. Number: up to 3

How to Apply: Submit an application to Melbourne Scholarships. Closing Date: 28 February 2012

Applicants must be: an unmarried female, at least 25, be an Australian citizen or hold an Australian permanent residency or permanent humanitarian visa, currently enrolled or planning to enrol full time at the University of Melbourne with at least 12 months of full-time study remaining in their current course. Applicants must be able to demonstrate socially and/or financially compelling circumstances and have a strong academic record.

$5000 annual allowance. Number: up to 3 Applicants must be female and planning to enrol full time or be currently enrolled (with at least 12 months of full-time study remaining in their current course) in a Social Sciences discipline at the University of Melbourne. Indigenous Scholarships

The Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development administers the Indigenous Scholarship Program which provides specific scholarships such as housing bursaries, book vouchers, living costs and general grants. Applicants must: be able to demonstrate that they are an indigenous person of Australia and be able to demonstrate eligibility for the requirements of the scholarship. $7,500 one-off payment in the first year of enrolment. Number: up to 8 The Future Generations Scholarships are awarded on academic merit to students admitted to specific graduate coursework programmes, to whom the award may make a difference in accepting the offer of a course place. How to Apply: No scholarship application is required. All graduates accepted into the Graduate Access Program will automatically be considered by their graduate school.

International Students
Citizens of countries other than Australia or New Zealand, and not Australian PRs

25% to 100% tuition fee remission. Number: dependent upon funding. Students must receive an unconditional offer of a place in an approved masters program. Check the Melbourne Scholarships website for a full list of eligible courses. How to Apply: No application is necessary. Selection is made by faculties based on academic merit. Successful applicants are emailed an offer at the start of semester.

Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarships (ADB)


Annual $15,300 living allowance, 100% tuition fee remission, a return economy airfare, research materials allowance and health cover. Number: up to 3

Eligible students must: be a citizen of an ADB member country, be enrolled in an approved course full-time, have at least 2 years full time work experience, be 35 years or under by closing date and return to their country of citizenship at the end of their course.

How to Apply: No scholarship application is necessary. Closing Date: Candidates must have received an unconditional offer of a course place by: 31 August 2011 (for Semester 1, 2012)
28 February 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012)

Travelling Scholarships
For both local and international students unless otherwise specified

Melbourne Global Scholarships


$2,500 for more than 12 weeks. $1000 for less than 12 weeks.

How to Apply: Exchange students are automatically considered for this scholarship. Eligible students must be receiving faculty credit for their overseas study program, studying overseas full time, have a minimum 65% weighted grade point average across their course and not have already received a Melbourne Global Scholarship or Grant. In addition, graduate coursework students must have completed 37.5 points of their current course.

Melbourne Global Financial Assistance


Up to $2,000 one-off payment. Amounts may vary depending on available funds. Number: dependant upon funding.

How to Apply: Submit an application to Melbourne Scholarships. Closing Dates:
20 May (for travel May-October) 20 October (for travel November-April)

Applicants must be enrolled in the Melbourne Global Mobility Exchange Program, or a Study Abroad program of more than 12 weeks duration, or the Capitol Hill Internship (USA) Program and not have already received Financial Assistance. All Round 1 Financial Assistance applicants will be considered for the Aitchison Travelling Scholarship (one scholarship is awarded based on financial need with consideration given to academic merit. The value of this scholarship varies according to the funding available but is usually approximately $6,000). . Applicants must be a graduate of any Australian university, plan to undertake graduate studies or research in Great Britain, have been born in Australia or have parents who have been Australian residents for seven years or more, with the period of their residence commencing within three years of the birth of their applicant.

Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship


Living allowance, tuition fees (approx. $20,000 p/a). Number: This scholarship is not available for 2012.

W.E.J. Craig Travelling Scholarship

Applicants must: be a University of Melbourne graduate and plan to undertake graduate studies or research in animal husbandry at an overseas institution.

Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships


Living allowance, tuition fees, health insurance, and service fee cover charge. Number: 3 per year

Applicants must: plan to undertake postgraduate study at Harvard University, be citizens of Australia, have completed or are currently studying a degree at an Australian university and have spent at least two of the last 4 years at university.
