Comparative Study

This document summarizes a study that compares the effect of organic fertilizer (compost) and inorganic fertilizer (urea) on the growth of okra plants. The study involved planting okra seeds in two boxes, with one box receiving compost and the other receiving urea. The growth of the plants was measured weekly. The results showed the plants grown with urea grew faster, reaching an average height of 11.5 cm in the second week, while the plants grown with compost did not grow at all in the first two weeks. Therefore, the study concluded inorganic fertilizer or urea promotes faster growth of okra plants compared to organic fertilizer or compost.

Comparative study on the effect of Organic fertilizer (Compost) and Inorganic fertilizer (Urea) in the growth of Okra plants

I.

Introduction Philippines is an agricultural country whereby production of crops particularly vegetable is one of the populations sources of living. Thus, Agriculturist explores many ways to make crops grow faster. However, they have discovered that different crops grow best in different ways. Okra's (Ladies Finger) scientific name is Abelmoschus esculentus, it is occasionally referred to as Hibiscus esculentus L, is one of the most grown vegetable due to its nutritious and palatable taste, not to mention its medicinal value. Okra grows in a sandy loam soil. However, due to its in demand in the market, there is a need to look for a solution to make it grow faster. We, the Grade VI SPED FL, would like to find out how by conducting an experiment A Comparative Study on the Effect of Organic fertilizer (compost) and Inorganic Fertilizer (Urea) on the Growth of Okra Plants.

II.

Problem Comparative study on the effect of Organic fertilizer (Compost) and Inorganic fertilizer (Urea) in the growth of Okra plants

III.

Objective 1. To determine out the effect of Organic fertilizer (compost) and Inorganic fertilizer (Urea) in the growth of Okra plants.

IV.

Hypothesis 1. The Okra plants will grow faster when applied with Organic fertilizer or compost. 2. The Okra plants will grow faster when applied with Inorganic fertilizer or Urea.

V.

Materials 2 - 12 in x 12 in x 4 in seed box Okra seeds kilos Urea kilos Compost 18 kilos of loam soil (9 kilos each seed box) ruler

VI.

Procedure 1. Seed box was named with set A for organic fertilizer or compost and set B for Inorganic fertilizer or Urea. 2. Each seed box was filled with 9 kilos loam soil. 3. kilos of compost was mixed to 9 kilos of loam soil for set A and kilos of Urea was mixed to 9 kilos of loam soil for set B. 4. Each box was planted with 12 Okra seeds.

5. Every week the growth of Okra plants was measured using a ruler by centimetre and the average growth was computed as shown in the Table 1 on the Result.

VII.

Result A. Pictures

B. Interpretation Table 1 Okra growth No. Of Weeks Set A (Organic/Compost) Set B Inorganic/Urea 1 2 0 0 8.5 cm 11.5 cm

Table 1 shows the result of the growth of Okra plants. In week one the researchers observed the Okra seeds did not grow in Set A while in Set B the average growth of Okra plants is 8.5 cm. During week 2 Still Set A no growth appears and in set B the average growth is 11.5 cm.

VIII. Conclusion It has been observed and concluded that the Okra plants grow faster when applied with Inorganic fertilizer or Urea compare to Organic Fertilizer or Compost. The researcher accepted the second hypothesis and rejected the first one.
