Meraki Automation using Python Workshop FAQ

Q. What will participants learn in this workshop?

A. This workshop will help participants apply Python concepts to write their own
automation scripts with the Meraki Dashboard, also participants will also learn how and
when to use Automation to solve challenges maintaining and deploying Meraki Networks.

Q. How long is the workshop?

A. The workshop is designed to be a half-day session, 4 hours.

Q. Is this classroom or virtual?

A. For now, it will be virtually delivered using Cisco WebEx.

Q. How much Python knowledge is required to attend this workshop?

A. No Python knowledge is expected for this workshop, however installing Python will not
be covered, participants should have Python already installed and ready to go, if not they
will be directed to use pythonanywhere, a cloud-based python environment (a free account
is fine).

Q. How much Meraki Knowledge is required for this workshop?

A. Participants are expected to have ECMS1 or equivalent knowledge before attending this
workshop.

Q. Who are the target audience?

A. Meraki and Cisco Partners, Customers, Cisco SE’s, Cisco Solutions Architects, Meraki PSS,
Meraki TSA, Meraki SE’s who are looking to leverage on the benefits of automation for
deploying new Meraki networks, maintaining/troubleshooting existing Meraki networks or
Technical Sales showing the power of API’s to their customers.
Q. What job roles does this workshop target?

A. Network Engineers, Administrators, Technical Sales, Solutions Architects.

Q. I am not a developer, why do I need to do this workshop?

A. Automation of networks is increasingly becoming a norm in deploying, maintaining and


troubleshooting networks. Having the ability to write basic scripts to automate common
tasks can save a lot of time and cost in deployment and maintenance of networks. Network
Engineers are not expected to develop applications like developers do, but automation
network operations can easily be done using basic scripting, which this workshop aims to
provide.

Q. What do I need during the workshop?

A. A solid Internet connection, laptop/computer to practice the exercises, WebEx software,


a Google Account.

Q. How do I continue my learning after the workshop?

A. The Meraki Developer Hub and Meraki Community have lots of resources to build on top
of the skills learnt during the workshop.

Q. How does this align with Meraki DevNet Express?

A. The Meraki DevNet Express is a good follow up to this workshop, this workshop covers
the fundamentals of using Python concepts with the Meraki Dashboard API, after this
workshop participants can continue their learning through DevNet Express and learn of
further topics such as git, Location Analytics, MV Sense, Captive Portal etc

Q. How does this align with CCNA DevNet?

A. CCNA DevNet covers a wide variety of topics around the whole automation workflow and
across the Cisco platform with Meraki a part of it, this workshop focuses only on using
Python with the Meraki Dashboard.

Q. Will there be a certificate after attending this workshop?
