Delivery risk – what we are seeing
- Scope mgmt.
o Try to understand what you are trying to do
o If you doing something outside to the role take it to leadership. Make sure not to
say yes and yes
- Capability & Approach
o Very technical and complex. Project mgmt. control, not tracking our docs
- Commercial
o Finances of things
o Ends up taking a lot of time and money
- Relationship mgmt.
o Making sure to take time build a relationship with client and your work
- Culture and band
o No signed client commitment for some or all of the work to be done
Why is a common delivery approach important?
- EVD method
o A standard and scabble approach to delivering all projects our way
The same method across all methods such as sap, oracle and non tech
projects
o A set of step by step and repeatable tasks with tools, templates and samples for
projected execution
Such as creating your own method using this while being on the project
o A targeted approach that allows us to address all aspects of a project
Weather this manging the client, the finances or any parts of the project
are not forgotten
o The common practice behind any delivery approach type
Addresses different types of project methods
SAP PROJECT CYCLE
Project follows a standardized life cycle from PREPARE through RUN. Project Phase is a defined
time within the implementation lifecycle where a set of activities are carried out to create a
defined set of Deliverables.
1. Prepare
- Contracting or bid phase
- Starting to build out road maps
- Understanding the project, and the roles
- Putting together a team with particular roles
- Intial risks and issues
- When we are defining our budget
2. Explore
- Conducting workshops to get with clients requirements
- Design new business processes
- Where SAP will fit and support those areas
- Series of workshops, working through those processes with clients
- We use SAP to see if there is a gap
3. Realize
- If you’re following a waterfall project it is going to be a Linear phase
o Design – build – test (in order only)
o Could be two weeks or two years depending on the project
- If you’re following a Agile perspective
o Design – build – test (done in cycles)
o Writing out test scripts
o What is going to be on scope
- Once you've tested it all this is where you decide if you want to go live or not
4. Deploy
- This is where the SAP system goes live to end users
- You do testing to end users
- End user testing
- Go live experience
- And actual go live experience
5. Run
- Application mgmt. service group
- Once you’ve deployed the system we try to fix the bugs within the system
- Try to understand how to use the system in the way it is
- Making sure everyone knows how to use the system and all the bugs are fixed while
their opinion is being heard about the issues that it may have
*we may start a project during the realize phase*
*we may be contracted only to do specific parts of the project*
Intro to EVD
Enterprise
Value
Delivery
- Sort of like a recipe book
- All of our projects should follow EVD methods
- It is a propriety method so it provides a common language
Why use the EVD?
- Accelerator
o Gives you the tools that you need which allows us to reduce ramp up time and
costs
- Quality
o It helps to deliver against defined expectations
- Proven
o It has been proven to use for many years and many times
- Consistency
o Every project you go on it will be slightly different with roles and teams
o With EVD it will common across all projects
- Standards
o EVD is aligned with PMI, PMBOK , SEI, CMMI and others
What delivery approaches does the EVD support?
- EVD does support both waterfall and agile. Depending on what project you are it will
outlign both methods
- Waterfall
o It is a linear and sequential approach to software development which relies on
detailed requirements straight up and uses the outputs/answers of each phase
to form the base of work for the next phase
- Agile
o It is an adaptative and iterative approach to software development emphasizing
flexibility integrated customer involvement and rapid delivery of functionality.
Change Management in EVD
- Big thing to consider as every project needs it layed into it. Ownership of each one may
be different
- Could be a third party who does or it could be in house
- Stakeholder alignment, everyone is on board
- Leadership alignment to what we are building
- It helps all the employees of the finished project so they are not confused
Method structure & navigation
Standard approach is Agile by the firm
SAP Agile is hybrid
The main difference is the middle section and terminology. With Agile using user stories (due to
design config). Waterfall is kinda your config and design build. Agile is more user ended, user
story follows a standardized structure
Waterfall
- Prepare – Explore – Realize (build) – Realize (test) – Deploy – Run
Agile
- Prepare – Explore- Sprint Cycle – Deploy – Run
Using the EVD Methods
1. Opportunity and Proposal
- Method resource centre
o Understand overall scope and define approach using the EVD method and
Pursuit Materials
o Determine how much effort will be needed by Deloitte and client resources to
complete the work
o Write a proposal which clearly articulated, scope, approach, resources, and
assumptions
2. Contracting
- QRM website (T&Cs)
- EVD (Content)
o SOW Template & SOW Checklist
o Based on EVD method
3. Project Delivery
- EVD
o Key impact delivabiles
o Minimum requirement for delivery
SAP Must Do’s
Giant library of resources
- SAP Must-Do’s is a Master list of 87 Must Dos from our EVD for SAP – Agile Method
represent the most critical deliverables (76) and work products (11) that will help us
drive consistency, efficiency and quality.
- These Must-Do’s must be produced at a minimum by Agile SAP Projects. However,
projects may decide to produce additional deliverables and work products from our EVD
for SAP – Agile Method to meet project demands
- The Must Do’s also indicate which are applicable for Waterfall SAP projects
Wrapping Up
- Helps reduce cost risk, increase quality, repeatable (the more you do a project you will
understand things easier). It makes you more efficient as an employee
