1. Is the topic of the paper interesting and specific? If it is too general or vague, please indicate so.

2. Is the title of the story original and creative? How about the opening sentence of the essay?

3. What is the writer's main point? (Thesis argument) Is there a definite theory/main interpretation stated clearly in the introduction?

4. Does the introduction lead up to the thesis in a smooth, informative way? If not, what do you suggest the writer do?

5. Is the topic thoroughly discussed? Are the essay's arguments sustained by evidence? Is everything mentioned in the essay true?

6. Does the paper demonstrate that the student analyzed the two media carefully?

7. Does the paper analyze and compare/contrast the two pieces, or does it only summarize the main points of the plots?

8. Does each paragraph begin with a topic sentence? Do the topic sentences correctly describe the main points of the paragraphs? Does each of the topic sentences connect back to the thesis?

9. Are the ideas in the essay clear and concise? Do you understand what you are reading?

10. Are quotations integrated smoothly? Do they flow with the grammar of the sentence? Are authors names and page number put in parentheses after every quotation before the period (.)?

11. Is there a Works Cited page reflecting each work quoted or paraphrased (with in-text citation) in the body of the essay?

12. Is the essay itself formatted correctly (12 pt. Times New Roman text, double-spacing, correct personal details on first page, plus word count)?

13. Are there grammar and spelling errors in the essay?

14. Does the conclusion provide enough closure for the essay?

15. Are there any additional suggestions or comments that you would like to make to the author of the essay?
