Answer Key: Practice Paper 02 (Chapter

07 - Motion)
Class: IX | Subject: Science

SECTION A – MCQs (1 mark each)

1. (d) equal or less than 1

2. (c) in accelerated motion

3. (b) speed and acceleration respectively

4. (c) zero velocity

5. (diagram based – uniform motion is represented by a straight sloping line on distance-

time graph)

6. (c) Speedometer

7. (b) Car B is the slowest

8. (c) In accelerated motion

9. (c) Assertion is true but the Reason is false

10. (b) The Assertion and the Reason are correct but the Reason is not the correct
explanation of the Assertion

SECTION B – Short Answer (2 marks each)

11. Convert 40 km/h to m/s = 40 × (5/18) = 11.11 m/s
Time = 10 min = 600 s
Acceleration = (v - u)/t = (11.11 - 0)/600 = 0.0185 m/s²

12. Convert speeds to m/s: 80 km/h = 22.22 m/s, 60 km/h = 16.67 m/s
Acceleration = (v - u)/t = (16.67 - 22.22)/5 = -1.11 m/s²

13. (a) Displacement = 0 (comes back to same point), Distance = 2h (up and down)
(b) If velocity is halved, max height reduces to 1/4 and distance also reduces.

14. Uniform acceleration: Equal change in velocity in equal time intervals.

Non-uniform acceleration: Unequal change in velocity in equal time intervals.
SECTION C – Short Answer (3 marks each)
15. u = 0, a = 0.1 m/s², t = 2 min = 120 s
(a) v = u + at = 0 + 0.1×120 = 12 m/s
(b) s = ut + ½at² = 0 + 0.5×0.1×(120²) = 720 m

16. The displacement-time graph is a curve, indicating non-uniform motion (acceleration or

deceleration).

17. u = 5 m/s, a = -10 m/s² (since upward and a is downward)

v = 0 at max height
v² = u² + 2as => 0 = 25 - 20h => h = 1.25 m
t = (v - u)/a = (0 - 5)/(-10) = 0.5 s

SECTION D – Long Answer (5 marks)

18. (a) Velocity-time graph is a straight horizontal line for uniform motion.
Slope = Δv/Δt = acceleration.
(b) u = 0, a = 3 m/s², t = 35 s
v = u + at = 0 + 3×35 = 105 m/s
s = ut + ½at² = 0 + 0.5×3×35² = 1837.5 m
Runway length = 1837.5 m
OR Use graph to derive:
v = u + at
s = ut + ½at²
v² = u² + 2as

SECTION E – Case Study Based (4 marks each)

19. (a) Displacement = Area under velocity-time graph (use formula for trapezium or
triangles)
(b) After deceleration: Use v² = u² + 2as to find distance
(c) Motion: accelerated, uniform, decelerated motion (depending on graph)

20. (a) Distance = speed × time difference after restart

(b) Distance before braking = speed × reaction time = (50×1000/3600) × 0.1 = 1.39 m
Speed after = 45 km/h and 60 km/h → Use distance = speed × time
Distance between after 1.5 hr = (60 - 45)×1.5 = 22.5 km
(c) Distance in 0.5 s = (50×1000/3600) × 0.5 = 6.94 m
