Stative verbs:
They are verbs describing a permanent state(involuntary) which
dont have continuous forms; such as: see, hear, smell, feel, taste etc.
But look, watch and listen express voluntary actions and can have
continuous forms.
Verbs of opinion: agree, believe, consider etc
Verbs of emotions: like love, hate feel etc
Others: fit, appear, know, need, want, wish etc
Some stative verbs have continuous forms but they change in
meaning.
1-She has a red car. (owns)
-She is having a shower now. (shes taking or having)
2-You look great ! (appear)
- Why are you looking at me like this! (examining)
3-She comes from Australia. (shes born)
-Shes coming from France. (Shes travelling from.....)
4- I think she is Christian. (believe)
-I am thinking about your proposition. (considering)
5- This top feels soft. (has the texture)
- He is feeling his way around the dark room. ( Finding by testing)
6-This soup tastes awful. (has the flavour)
-Mum is tasting the soup. (Taking a sample of/trying the taste)
7-I see you are trying to pull my leg. (understand)
-I am seeing you on Monday. (visiting)
8-She loves seafood. (liking in general-permanent)
-She is loving this salad. (enjoying specifically-temporary)
9-He is smart.
(a matter of existing-character-permanent)
- He is being naughty these days.
( He is behaving)
10- The soup smells good.
- She is smelling the perfume.
