Assignment1 HS1

The assignment involves checking the stability of a concrete gravity dam under extreme loading conditions with functioning drains. Key data includes dimensions, material properties, and environmental factors such as earthquake and wind load. The analysis must be conducted manually and with CADAM software, with a note to comment on any unsafe stability factor values.

Assignment

1. Check the stability of a concrete gravity dam for the Extreme Loading Condition-drains
functioning.

I. Data

 Top width =8 m
 Free board =3m
 Maximum tail water depth =6m
 Sediment level on u/s face =7m
 Batter is starting at = 44 m
 Projection from upstream = 4.5 m
 Downstream slope:
- started at (from the top) = 12.5 m
- H:V = 0.7:1 (H:V)
 Location of drainage gallery from the toe = 49 m

Item C (KPa) Ф (deg) ℎ F (km) V (Km/s)

Mass Concrete, 700 35
rock, interface
Silt sediment 30
Earthquake 0.1 0.08
Wind 10 130

 Concrete compressive strength (fc) = 25 MPa

 Uplift area factor =1
 Uplift drains coefficient, Kd = 1/3

Note:

 You can consider any missing input data reasonably.

 The stability analysis should be done manually and using CADAM software.
 Write your own comment if the value of stability factor is unsafe.
