Not every food-service operation needs to be in a retail location, but for those that do depend on retail traffic like fast food outlets, here are some factors to consider when deciding on a location: Anticipated sales volume: The location contributes to our sales volume. Accessibility to potential customers: Consider how easy it will be for customers to get into our outlet. If you are relying on strong pedestrian traffic, consider whether or not nearby businesses will generate foot traffic for you. The rent-paying capacity of your business: We have done a sales-and-profit projection for our first year of operation, revenue we can expect to generate, and we can use that information to decide how much rent you can afford to pay. Restrictive ordinances: We may encounter unusually restrictive ordinances that make an otherwise strong site less than ideal. Traffic density: With careful examination of food traffic, we can determine the
approximate sales potential of each pedestrian passing a given location. Two factors are especially important in this analysis: total pedestrian traffic during business hours and the percentage of it that is likely to patronize our food service business. Visibility is a locations ability to be seen and recognized. Good visibility can create opportunities for the impulse eating decision that is critical of fast food operators, and it allows the exposure full-service restaurants require. Customer parking facilities: In case you allow for parking the site should provide convenient, adequate parking as well as easy access for customers. Proximity to other businesses: Neighboring businesses may influence our store's volume, and their presence can work for you or against you.
Plant Site and Local Condition: The recommended area of our restaurant business setup will be in a densely populated middle income area (Rinkhola Bazar, International Zoo Road). The main reason for such a location is the presence of target market and customer traffic which are the prerequisites for the success of the restaurant. The location of our restaurant is so much easy to go there. The customer can go easily by any kind of vehicle.
Environmental Impact:
Obesity in Bangladesh
In our country, a compelling impact of fast-food is the rise in the number of obese cases particularly in children brought up in a culinary culture of fanfold. The prevalence of obesity has steadily increased over the years regardless of gender, age, or socio-cultural background. From 1960 to 2000, the pervasiveness of obesity more than doubled with most of this rise happening in the past 20 years (2003). From 1988 to 2000, the incidence of extreme obesity increased from 2.9 to 4.7 percent. Obese individuals have a 50 to 100 percent increased risk of death from all causes compared with normal rate individuals (1998). Life expectancy of a modern obese person can be shortened by 2 to 5 years.
Statistics show that obesity, one cause of which is excessive fast-food intake, has an impact on all sorts of people regardless of age, gender, race or culture, and state location although in varying degrees. In terms of age, the data issued by the CDC showed that both adults and children have significant obesity rate. In adults, the group with the highest obesity rate are nonHispanic black women beyond 40 years of age.
Understanding the differences in obesity rate requires a look into the demographic determinants of fast-food intake. (2001) showed that price, income and other demographic characteristics influence the prevalence of fast-food intake. Their research suggests that the increase in fast-food consumption is a result of the rampant offers of food supply convenience. This implied that fast-
food consumers increase due to a motivation, provided by the relative cheapness of fast-food in terms of price, taste and time. The rate of fast-food consumption is related to household opportunity cost since the research showed that it is more costly in terms of time and money to prepare ethnic food relative to fast-food so that more households patronize fast-food restaurants. The earlier study by showed that household income, value given to time, size and composition are the important determinants of household expenditures on food consumed outside of the home.
Obesity is not a new health condition but it became an important health issue in the last two decades because of the increasing number of people suffering from obesity attributed to diet and physical activity. It was only in recent years that the government and communities took action to provide information on the disease and encourage community participation in addressing the health issue.
