Assignment 4 Computer Systems

The document outlines five key components of a computer system unit: CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU, and HDD/SSD, along with their functions. It explains that the CPU processes data while the motherboard connects components, RAM provides temporary storage, PSU supplies power, and HDD/SSD offers permanent data storage. Additionally, it distinguishes between the CPU as the processing chip and the system unit as the physical case containing the CPU and other hardware.

Assignment 4 - Computer Systems Unit

1. List of Five Components Inside the Computer System Unit:

1. Central Processing Unit (CPU)

2. Motherboard
3. Random Access Memory (RAM)
4. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
5. Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or Solid-State Drive (SSD)

2. Functions of Each Component:

- CPU: Acts as the brain of the computer, executing instructions and processing data.
- Motherboard: The main circuit board that connects and allows communication between components.
- RAM: Temporarily stores data and instructions for quick access by the CPU.
- PSU: Converts electrical power from an outlet into usable power for the computer components.
- HDD/SSD: Stores the operating system, applications, and user data permanently.

3. Difference Between CPU and System Unit:

The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the main processing chip inside the computer that executes
instructions and processes data. The system unit, on the other hand, is the physical case that
houses the CPU along with other essential hardware components like the motherboard, RAM,
storage devices, and power supply.
