Comparing Canterbury Tales And The Thousand And One Nights
Apart from both stories having framing devices; how do The Canterbury Tales and the Thousand
and One Nights compare and differ from one another? In comparison; The Canterbury Tales and the
Thousand and One Nights, both contain a selection of frame stories that are told over a certain
period of time. The Thousand and One Nights and The Canterbury Talesare also poems and have a
beginning and ending within which a series of tales are related. The Canterbury Tales and the
Thousand and One Nights are both occupied with a task; so as a result, they tell stories to make
time go by quickly. For example, in the Thousand and One Nights the king s loyal vizier, his
daughter, Shahrazad, volunteers to marry the king. He tries to dissuade her, but Shahrazad... Show

1744). The general frame of The Canterbury Tales centered on a set of pilgrims such as the
narrator (Chaucer), The Knight, The Wife of Bath, The Pardoner, The Miller, The Prioress, The

The Manciple, The Merchant, The Shipman, The Physician, The Franklin, The Reeve, The

All twenty six pilgrims set out on a journey to Canterbury to visit shrines as well as the relics of
Saint Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. In addition, both stories are either told by an
individual story teller or a group of characters like we see in The Canterbury Tales. For instance,
unlike The Thousand and One Nights, this has (for the most part) a single storyteller; The
Canterbury Tales revels in the extraordinary range of possible tales and possible
Water Is Life Club Water Crisis Analysis
It was 3 2, my soccer team team Gringo was at the disadvantage, particularly because the 9,000
foot elevation of Ollantaytambo, Peru was working against us. Dripped in sweat, throats parched,
Team Gringo took a water break. I grabbed my water bottle filled with well filtered tap water,
knowing upon arrival to not even brush our teeth with the water. Across the field, my opponents
gathered around a puddle accumulated from an unlikely rainfall, taking turns cooling themselves off
and then drinking it. Seeing this, I was stunned. Since sophomore year, I have participated in the
Water is Life Club; our mission is helping end the water crisisthrough raising awareness and

A Brief Note On Tobacco Products Are Made Up Of Over Four...
Amber Hilton
Research Methods
Introduction 2 Lit. Review 2

Tobacco products are made up of over four thousand dangerous chemicals including about two
hundred and fifty known chemicals (Braithwaite, Taylor, Treadwell, 2009). According to the Center
for Disease Control and prevention (1999) tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death and
disease in America. On average, smokers die thirteen to fourteen years quicker than people who don
t smoke (Braithwaite et al. 2009). In the United Stated over twenty percent of deaths are from
tobacco use. Additionally, over six hundred thousand people die from secondhand smoke each year
with one third being children(Action on smoking and health). Illnesses connected with tobacco use
are cancer (bladder, esophagus, lung, mouth, throat), chronic lung and cardiovascular disease and
reproductive problems (Braithwaite et al. 2009). The CDC reports show that there is an increase
in some day smokers, nationwide. Some day smokers are smokers who report that they smoke
only on some days. Research states that 24.0% of the adult population are some day smokers. For
ages 18 24 year olds 28.7% are some day smokers. 18 24 year olds are at higher risk of being some
day smokers than any other age group. When these statistics are broken down by education level, it
shows that adults with a college education reported the highest currency of someday smoking
(31.7%) (CDC, 4/2003).

Clinical Trials And Observational Studies
The efficacy of ACE I has been widely evaluated in clinical trials and observational studies. In
1983, Captopril multicenter research group investigated the efficacy of Captopril in a 92 cohort with
heart failure refractory to digitalis and diuretic therapy. In this randomized, double blind trial, 50
patients were assigned to Captopril and 42 were assigned to placebo group. Over 2 week dosage
titration and 10 week evaluation period, the Captopril group revealed improvement in exercise
tolerance and specific symptoms of heart failure, including dyspnea, fatigue and orthopnea, and the
reduction of edema. Captopril therapy were concluded as an effect adjunctive treatment to digitalis
and diuretic drugs for patients with refractory heart failure. (14) Later on, other ACE I, such as
Enalapril, were shown to be effective in treating patients with congestive heart failure, by reducing
left ventricular dimension, in randomized clinical studies.(15 17) The Heart Outcomes Prevention
Evaluation Study Investigators conducted a factorial study to evaluate the ACE I, Ramipril, for
improving outcomes among patients with high risk for cardiovascular events, but without left
ventricular dysfunction or heart failure. Ramipril significantly reduced the rates of death, myocardial
infarction, and stroke in a broad range of high risk patients who are not known to have heart failure.

Essay about Analysis of German Film Run Lola Run
Analysis of German Film Run Lola Run

Run Lola Run, is a German film about a twenty something woman (Lola) who has 20 minutes to
find $100,000 or her love (Manni) will be killed. The search for the money is played through once
with a fatal ending and one would think the movie was over but then it is shown again as if it had
happened ten seconds later and changed everything. It is then played out one last time. After the
first and second sequence, there is a red hued, narrative bridge. There are several purposes of
those bridges that affect the movie as a whole. The film Run Lola Run can be analyzed by using
the four elements of mise en scene. Mise en scene refers to the aspects of film that overlap with the

Surrounding Lola and Manni is a number of frightened customers and cashiers. This contrast in
setting shows how private the bridge scene is compared to the robbery scene. The privacy of the
bedroom scene allows Lola and Manni to show their more sensitive and vulnerable sides. The next
element of mise en scene is lighting. As stated earlier, the entire bedroom scene has a red hue to it.
This red hue also goes along with the whole idea of privacy. The red tint seems to be the chosen
shade because it runs parallel with the idea of two people in a bedroom possible being intimate. On
the other hand, the lighting in the robbery scene is completely different. The entire front half of the
grocery store is a huge window. The time of the robbery is high noon, so there is a lot of natural
sunlight pouring though the window. Since this light is coming from the front area of the store,
often when Lola and Manni are facing inward the lighting is only hitting their backs, which gives
the viewer more of a feel that it is actually robbery. This contrast in light also shows how the
bedroom scene is more of a forum to discuss feelings than say that of a grocery store is.

The third element of mise en scene is costume. Obviously the costume in the red scenes is scarce.
It appears that the only thing Lola and Manni are wearing is a sheet that is covering them up. This
red hue also puts them in a more natural position. They are naked and Lola s bright red hair is not
Color Psychology
Color is defined as the quality of an object or substance with respect to light reflected by the object,
usually determined visually by measurement of hue, saturation, and brightness of the reflected light;
saturation or chroma; hue (Webster s Dictionary). Color is an extremely powerful psychological
tool used across the globe. Our world would be bland and boring without the use of colorin our
everyday lives. Using color psychology can encourage sales, calm a crowd, and even help a person
send a positive (or negative) message. Many companies use color psychology in their marketing
schemes. June Campbell, writer for Nightcates Multimedia Productions, states, Colors not only
enhance the appearance of the item they also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, even schools are getting in on a bit of color psychology. Some schools are known to paint
the locker room of the opposing team in pink. Yes, pink. Pink drains energy out of a person and
causes fatigue a very strategic move. Prisons are also known to use pink in their jail cells because
it drains all the negative energy from the inmates. Culture has a large influence on the meanings
of color as well. First, China looks at colors differently than we do here in America. Let us take a
look at the color red once again. In China red is the color worn by brides. If a Chinese woman
were to wear white for her wedding, her parents would not allow her to marry. Secondly, in India
red is also a symbol of purity and good luck, which is why it is the traditional wedding gown color.
Also, yellow is said to be a sacred and imperial color for their culture. Now, in America, we have
different meanings for certain colors than other countries, and our flag colors and symbols best
represent us as a whole. The white represents purity and innocence, red signifies valor and
hardiness, and blue stands for justice, perseverance, and vigilance. The stars show the heavens and
all the good that people strive for, while the strips emulate the sun s rays. Breaking down each
country s flag by symbol and color only shows, in more detail, the background
Jamaica Kincaid Girl Essay
Since the beginning of mankind, oppression has been a major obstacle for women to overcome. In
Girl, Jamaica Kincaid illustrates through written word the struggle women go through due to the
expectations set for them. While there is female oppression of different forms, Jamaica Kincaid s
Girl is a resemblance of the oppression she felt during her childhood on the small and remote island
nation of Antigua.
In its most basic form, Girl vividly paints a literary picture depicting the way an old fashioned
wife is supposed to be in the eyes of her male patriarch. The piece by Kincaid seemingly consists
of a single string of instructions and commands from a motherly figure to a daughter. The
instructions could be described as a mother teaching a daughter how to properly do a women s
chore or how to keep her husband happy. For example, the motherly figure states, this is how to sew

Early on in Kincaid s piece, the motherly figure interrogates the young girl about singing benna in
Sunday school: is it true that you sing benna in Sunday school?...don t sing benna in Sunday
school...but I don t sing benna on Sundays at all and never in Sunday school (Kincaid, 120). During
the time Jamaica Kincaid lived on the island of Antigua, the British government had reign. As a
result of this movement of imperialism, Antiguan musicians adopted a West Indian form of short
song known as benna. Benna was a short hymn that often never went with musical instruments. Its
main purpose was to speak about culturally controversial topics such as sexuality, drugs, and
feminism as well as political corruption. As a result of the controversial lyrics, many Antiguans
were jailed for writing benna. While benna was not specific to Jamaica Kincaid, it does show one
form of oppression she faced growing up ( Countries and Their
