Name - Shishir Mishra

Branch (CSE)
Universal Human Value and Professional Ethics

Q1. Differentiate between prosperity and wealth. Describe the prevailing

notions of happiness, prosperity and its consequences.
Answer:
Prosperity refers to the feeling of having enough and the ability to share. It is a state of
contentment where all needs are fulfilled. Wealth, on the other hand, is the accumulation of
physical resources like money and property. Prosperity is a state of the mind, while wealth is
physical.
Many people believe that happiness comes only from wealth. This leads to stress, competition,
and corruption. However, real happiness is experienced when there is prosperity — which
includes both physical needs and mental satisfaction.

Q2. Describe the correlation between Sanyam and Swasthya. Suggest any
two programs that you can undertake to improve the health of your body.
Answer:
Sanyam means self-restraint — control over desires, emotions, and actions. Swasthya means
health — being in a state of physical and mental balance.
There is a deep connection: without Sanyam, one cannot maintain Swasthya. For example,
eating junk food despite knowing it’s harmful is a lack of Sanyam.

Two health improvement programs:

1. Daily yoga and meditation practice.

2. Balanced diet and regular sleep schedule.
Q3. Explain the feelings of care and guidance, glory, reverence and
gratitude.
Answer:

● Care: Concern for others’ well-being. E.g., caring for a sick friend.
● Guidance: Helping others make correct decisions. E.g., teacher guiding a student.
● Glory: Admiration for excellence and achievements. E.g., feeling proud of your country’s
history.
● Reverence: Deep respect for those with wisdom and understanding. E.g., elders or
teachers.
● Gratitude: Thankfulness for the help or support received. E.g., gratitude towards parents
for upbringing.

Q4. “Other than human order, the three orders are mutually fulfilling to
each other.” Explain with examples. Why does human order fail to be
mutually fulfilling to itself and to the other orders?
Answer:
The three orders — material, plant, and animal — are naturally fulfilling each other.
Example: Soil helps grow plants, plants provide food to animals, animals help in pollination.
This cycle is automatic and balanced.

But the human order disrupts this harmony because of greed, overexploitation, and lack of
understanding. Humans use resources beyond their needs, pollute the environment, and exploit
other beings — leading to imbalance.

Q5. Explain the meaning of profession and explore the need of ethical
competence in profession.
Answer:
A profession is any occupation that requires special knowledge and is performed with
responsibility towards society.
Ethical competence is the ability to do the profession with integrity, honesty, and fairness.
It ensures that the work benefits others and does not harm anyone. A professional without
ethics may misuse skills for selfish gains, causing harm to people and the environment.

Q6. List the three sources of imagination in the Self and analyze the
consequences with examples, when our imagination is guided by the
different sources as discussed in the course. How the harmony in the Self
can be ensured by way of Self-exploration?
Answer:
The three sources of imagination are:

1. Pre-conditioning – Thinking shaped by past experiences or societal beliefs.

2. Sensation – Desire for physical pleasures.
3. Natural Acceptance – Inner voice or conscience.

Consequences:

● If imagination is based on pre-conditioning, it may lead to stereotypes and stress.

● Based on sensation, it results in temporary pleasure but long-term dissatisfaction.
● Based on natural acceptance, it leads to peace and clarity.

Self-exploration helps in identifying the correct source and aligning imagination with natural
acceptance, which brings harmony in the self.

Q7. Visualize a framework for humanistic education for children. Suggest a

few ways to modify present-day school education.
Answer:
Humanistic education focuses on overall development — physical, emotional, intellectual,
and ethical. It promotes creativity, cooperation, and value-based learning.

Modifications in school system:

● Include value education and ethical behavior as a subject.

● Emphasize experiential learning, not just rote memorization.
● Encourage creativity, open discussions, and respect for nature and others.

Q8. Express the essence of ethical human conduct. Explain it in terms of

values, policies and character.
Answer:
Ethical human conduct means living with truth, honesty, justice, and responsibility. It reflects
in our behavior with others and with nature.

● Values: Principles like trust, compassion, and respect.

● Policies: Guidelines based on values — such as not cheating or harming others.
● Character: The outcome of consistently following right values and policies. A strong
character leads to a meaningful and happy life.
