The document provides calculations for various z-scores and their corresponding areas using a z-table. It also includes the conversion of z-scores to raw scores using the formula x = μ + (z × σ) for different means and standard deviations. Additionally, it compares the scores of two individuals, Zeleo and Zoey, and calculates the z-score for a specific score in a statistics test.

I. Use the z-table to find the area that corresponds to each of the following z-
scores:

1. z = 0.36
Looking up the z-score 0.36 in the z-table, the area (probability) is 0.6406.
2. z = 1.68
From the z-table, the area for a z-score of 1.68 is 0.9535.
3. z = -1.8
For a z-score of -1.8, the area is 0.0359.
4. z = -2.5
The area corresponding to a z-score of -2.5 is 0.0062.
5. z = 2.77
The area for z = 2.77 is 0.9973.

II. Complete the table by providing the correct answers:

To complete the table, we need to use the formula for converting a z-score to a raw score, which
is:

x=μ+(z×σ)x = \mu + (z \times \sigma)x=μ+(z×σ)

Where:

 μ\muμ is the mean

 σ\sigmaσ is the standard deviation
 zzz is the z-score
 xxx is the raw score

Let’s solve each part:

(1)

Mean (μ\muμ) = 30, Standard deviation (σ\sigmaσ) = 25, z = 3.5

x=30+(3.5×25)=30+87.5=117.5x = 30 + (3.5 \times 25) = 30 + 87.5 =

117.5x=30+(3.5×25)=30+87.5=117.5
So, x=117.5x = 117.5x=117.5.

(2)

Mean (μ\muμ) = 69, Standard deviation (σ\sigmaσ) = 15, z = -2

x=69+(−2×15)=69−30=39x = 69 + (-2 \times 15) = 69 - 30 = 39x=69+(−2×15)=69−30=39

So, x=39x = 39x=39.

(3)

Mean (μ\muμ) = 70, Standard deviation (σ\sigmaσ) = 60, z = 4

x=70+(4×60)=70+240=310x = 70 + (4 \times 60) = 70 + 240 = 310x=70+(4×60)=70+240=310

So, x=310x = 310x=310.

(4)

Mean (μ\muμ) = 83, Standard deviation (σ\sigmaσ) = 5, z = 2.35

x=83+(2.35×5)=83+11.75=94.75x = 83 + (2.35 \times 5) = 83 + 11.75 =

94.75x=83+(2.35×5)=83+11.75=94.75

So, x=94.75x = 94.75x=94.75.

III. Problem Solving

Zeleo and Zoey’s Scores:

To find their scores, we use the z-score formula:

z=x−μσz = \frac{x - \mu}{\sigma}z=σx−μ

Where:

 xxx is the score

 μ\muμ is the mean
 σ\σ is the standard deviation

Zeleo’s Score:

Zeleo’s z-score is 1.5, mean = 120, and standard deviation = 10. We plug in the values:
1.5=x−120101.5 = \frac{x - 120}{10}1.5=10x−120

Multiply both sides by 10:

15=x−12015 = x - 12015=x−120

Add 120 to both sides:

x=135x = 135x=135

So, Zeleo’s score is 135.

Zoey’s Score:

Zoey’s z-score is -0.95, mean = 120, and standard deviation = 10. We plug in the values:

−0.95=x−12010-0.95 = \frac{x - 120}{10}−0.95=10x−120

Multiply both sides by 10:

−9.5=x−120-9.5 = x - 120−9.5=x−120

Add 120 to both sides:

x=110.5x = 110.5x=110.5

So, Zoey’s score is 110.5.

Who Scored Higher?

Zeleo scored 135, while Zoey scored 110.5. Therefore, Zeleo scored higher.

Z-Score for a Score of 30 in a Stats and Probability Test:

We can use the z-score formula again:

z=x−μσz = \frac{x - \mu}{\sigma}z=σx−μ

Given:

 x=30x = 30x=30
 μ=35\mu = 35μ=35
 σ=4.5\sigma = 4.5σ=4.5
Substitute the values into the formula:

z=30−354.5=−54.5≈−1.11z = \frac{30 - 35}{4.5} = \frac{-5}{4.5} \approx -1.11z=4.530−35

=4.5−5≈−1.11

So, the z-score for a score of 30 is approximately -1.11.
