Written Documentation Of Mali By Ibn Battuta
Historians rely on oral sources to study and understand Ancient and Medieval Africa. The African
people never adopted the practice of written documentation for events. Instead, individuals would
memorize the clan s history and recall it orally. Because of this lack of written primary sources,
historians experience numerous issues when interpreting oral sources. For example, a foreigner or
visitor may not understand the background information of procedures and values the natives
practiced. While oral sources can provide insight into the cultures of African lives, they can also
remain silent in explanations. One example of this issue includes the written documentation of Mali
by Ibn Battuta.
The Mali Empire started during the reign of Sundiata ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although his source lacked the in depth explanations of certain practices and roles, he presented the
basic information of the civilization. Despite this lack of information, historians still extract
information from these types of sources to identify the lifestyles, politics, religions, and economics
in these cultures. In the same way, Battuta brought attention to the culture of Mali in order to provide
historians the sources needed to discover and understand Ancient and Medieval African cultures.
Ultimately, historians will continue filtering sources for the enlightening details, hoping to place the

The English Peasant Uprising Essay
The English Peasant Uprising was motivated by a growing contempt with the government and
clergy following the Black Death which was finally set off by a series of immediate social and
economic causes. A shortage of workers followed the Black Death with an estimated forty five
per cent of the population dying in England . As entire towns were either deserted or left devoid
of life, rural peasants increased their mobility into major cities. This shortage of rural workers led
to famine as fields were left to go fallow, placing further economic pressure on the peasant classes
who survived as the price of food increased. Due to the lack of labourers, the labourers who survived
demanded greater wages as they now had increased leverage over... Show more content on

Schools of thought such as held by the Lollards, followers of theologian and reformer John
Wycliffe whom acted as lay preachers, were held responsible for the Uprising as they were
critical of the church as an institution, particularly the concept of the Church owning land. As
these Lollards travelled and preached their opposition to the Church as temporal power, they
resonated with the peasants and became increasingly popular as unlike many of the priests and
monks recruited after the Black Death, they were observed to be genuinely pious . The already
solid dissatisfaction with the clergy only intensified with the imprisonment of a highly popular
Lollard, John Ball. John Ball was imprisoned at Maidstone in Kent when he came into conflict
with Simon of Sudbury Archbishop of Canterbury for lay preaching. The Hundred Years war with
France is still ongoing at this point which was also adding further pressure to the lower classes
due to the taxes needed to fund it. The war was very expensive, which meant more taxes had to be
put in place to compensate for the lack of people paying taxes on account of forty five per cent of
tax payers being dead. Not only were wages fixed by parliament, but parliament demanded more
money from a populace already financially struggling under fixed wages and inflated food prices.
The stresses of the Hundred Years War only intensified with the death of Edward III in 1377

Beth Israel
Beth Israel Hospital (BI) in Boston, Massachusetts, is a hospital with a three faceted identity. First
of all it is a hospital for patients from Boston and the surroundings. The second role is as a research
institution and the last role is as a trainings institution where Harvard Medical School faculty
members can be trained.
Despite the hospital is one of the best, some people called the organization an unruly mob . Malcom
Weinier, vice president of clinical and support services, told that the BI hospital has a structure that s
typical for a hospital. It is part hierarchy, part team, and part matrix, but more team than anything

But with what number of casualties must one be satisfied and can be seen as quality? Obviously
this is a very delicate example, but it s reality.
Quality at Beth Israel, as stated in the example above, is very context dependent and seen from a
Beth Israel point of view unclear. This is because every departments manages and defines quality in
different ways. The department of medicine for instance focuses on the revenue, number of research
grants acquired, difficulty to recruit, reputation of current staff, productive use of space and whether
the hospital is filled or not. Managing the medical quality at the department of medicine happens by
intensive one on one supervision trough the different layers of the organization. Another way to
measure medical quality at Beth Israel is the weekly morbidity/mortality conference. The house staff
present a difficult or unusual case to stimulate discussion. This way of quality management differs
from the quarterly medical quality assurance meetings concentrating especially on errors. At the
quarterly meetings statistics, specific cases, trends and problem areas will be reviewed. At the
department of cardiology quality is being measured and managed by the means of daily and weekly
conferences and on site supervision. The department of surgery manages quality by organizing
weekly open meetings where there will be spoken and judged about complicated situations.
