1692, Salem Massachusetts. We’Ve All Heard The Stories.
1692, Salem Massachusetts. We ve all heard the stories. Learned about it in history classes: The
Salem Witch Trials. Rather the allegation and trial of over 200 people in the town alone and
countless others in the surrounding area. But, contrary to what we learned in History, the first
accusation wasn t in Salem. The first recorded witch was found in 1669, twenty three years prior
in a little town known as Amesbury. The suspect was a woman named Susannah Martin, who was
44 at the time (Demos 1978). Twelve years prior to the trials, there was a woman, Bridget Bishop,
and aside from Ann Pudeator whose trial year is unknown was Salem s first case in 1678. Twelve
miles away, and four years later, another two cases appeared in Ipswich. Long... Show more content

One thing that the colonists looked for with this new world was the opportunity to seek freedom
from the rules and persecution of the English Church. Upon their arrival to the New World, it
became clear that not all of the people they encountered were under the Church s wing. Puritans
then decided that these people were being controlled by the devil, or believed in him in some way
( Religious Aspects 2008). There were several theories that some believe could have lead to the
Trial. One explained that the scare came from ministers who were in an effort to lead followers
and keep them in the Church ( Religious Aspects 2008). This is supported by evidence that shows
that individuals who strayed from the Church were to blame for such events. They were easy
targets to the claim witch, because they had dropped ties with the church. However, as time went
on, some cases looked more like possession and less like targeting. This factor changed how some
researchers described their findings. One case that supports the possession theory was that of
young Betty Parris and her cousin, Abigail Williams. Betty s father was a Reverend in their town
and noted that the two were observed to be experiencing symptoms that went beyond natural causes
( Religion During the Dark Days ). In translation, it was more than just a moment of epileptic shock.
People said that it resembles the Goodwin case one that also showed traced of demonic possession

Explain How Sports Reflect Who You Are
Explain how sports reflect who you are.
I really really love sports, I really like to play and watch a lot of them. My 3 main ones are Soccer,
my favorite sport, basketball, and baseball. I love to follow all of them and play all of them. Soccer
is my favorite sport. I love to play soccer, I have played for 10 years and 2 seasons each year, so for
20 seasons. I like to play left Forward, that is my favorite. I play in El Paso and so does Charlie and
Wes. We all get along really well and it is fun to not be the only Eureka kid there. I have known El
Paso/Gridley kids for a long time but it is fun to have a few other Eureka kids there too. Charlie and
Wes each play midfield and they usually pass it up to me and then I cross it to Joey or Logan or
Cole and Goal! (Or vise versa.) But me and Charlie and Wes have became really really close friends
along with all the kids on our team. I also love to watch soccer sometimes too. My favorite team is
Chelsea and then in the FIFA World CupI am usually for Brazil or America. Me and sometimes
Caden and sometimes Dad will watch and I will be like WOW, what a beautiful touch, and they will
be like, Umm, ok. So, we do like to watch but mostly me. Basketball is my second favorite sport. Me
and our old neighbours and Caden used to love to go outside at our house and shoot, but then they
moved away and we have no other kids to play with. But a lot of times I will go over to Connell s
house and we will have like a 1 on 1 game pretending
America s Recent Diplomatic Initiatives
AMERICA S RECENT DIPLOMATIC INITIATIVES
The United States Invasion of Panama, code named Operation Just Cause, happened between mid
December 1989 and late January 1990 (diplomatic initiatives 2016). It occurred during the U.S.
President George Bush s term, and ten years after the Torrijos Carter Treaties were ratified. The
treaties transferred the control of the Panama Canal from the United States over to Panama by
January 1, 2000 (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). During the invasion, the Panamanian leader, and
dictator Manuel Noriega was deposed, president elect Guillermo Endara was sworn into office, and
the Panamanian Defense Force was dissolved (invasion of Panama. 2016, May 27).
In the beginning the invasion of Panama appeared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Iraq invaded Kuwait, which is Iraq s smaller neighbor to the south (Gulf War. 2016, May 31). Iraq
claimed the country as an Iraqi territory. The U.S. intervened by invading and pushing back the
Iraqis. Later politicians would say that President Bush failed to stop Saddam Hussein, instead
leaving him in power (Gulf War. 2016, May 31). After the U.S. ended its defense of Kuwait,
thousands of Kurdish supporters who lived in Iraq s northern border regions continued to be killed
by Saddam Hussein, an estimated 100,000 (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). In the U.S., Gulf War
Syndrome was seen in veterans of the war, thought to be chemical weapons related. The American
intervention in Somalia, took place in 1993 1994 while Bill Clinton was the president of the United
States (diplomatic initiatives. 2016). The intervention in Somalia was nicknamed Operation
Restore Hope, where U.S. troops and United Nations forces, went to Somalia to restore the order
(diplomatic initiatives. 2016). On October 3, 1993, 18 U.S. soldiers were killed and 78 wounded
while attacking Somali fighters (Army in Somalia, 1992 1994. 2001). Up to 1,000 Somali fighters
and civilians were killed.
There was a large gap in casualties between the two sides. Americans were very shocked by the
Oct. 3 incident, they did not understand the source of Somalia anger. They saw their mission as an
effort to help the Somalis (Army in Somalia, 1992 1994. 2001). An article
Testing And Analyzing The Quality Of Water
Introduction Testing and analyzing the quality of water can be used to determine if the water is
safe or not to ingest. Some tests performed on water will help determine if the water is
bacteriologically free, contains chemical contaminant such as nitrates, the acidity of the water
itself, or to see the amount of chloride in water. Hydrology is the study of water. It has evolved as
a science due to the need of understanding the complex water system and to help solve water
problems (USGS). In this lab, a series of titration were conducted in order to see the amount of
calcium present in different samples of water in the state of Florida. Measuring the amount of
calcium in water determines how hard the water is. Hard... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to dissolve the solution completely, the solution itself had to have a pH of 8. To achieve
this, 8 drops of ammonium buffer was added, making the remains of the EDTA dissolve
completely. Titrating Water Sample #1 to test the hardness of water, the first sample used
wasDasani water. 25ml of the Dasani water was poured out into the beaker. 10 drops of
Eriochrome Black T indicator was placed into the water sample to make the sample turn a shade
of pink. The magnetic stirrer was then placed into the flask as the flask was then placed under the
burette. Titrate the solution until the solution turns a light blue. Record the change in volume of
the EDTA solution. To ensure the accuracy of this process, two more trials were conducted.
Titrating Water Sample #2, #3 and #4 in order to see the difference of water hardness from
different manufacturers, Zephyrhills and filtered water samples were used to conduct the
experiment. 10 drops of the EBT indicator was added into each of the 25ml sample and then
placed under the burette to titrate. After the water sample turns a light shade of blue, record the
change in volume. Repeat the process two more times for each sample to ensure accurate
measurements. Titrating Tap Water and Deionized Water 25ml of each sample was used for
titration to see how big of a difference the amount of calcium was in each sample. One drop of
indicator was added to each of the sample
Lin-Manuel Miranda
Lin Manuel Miranda, An artist of the 21st Century.
A bright light breaks through the darkness of the theater house, illuminating the stage with vibrant
colors. Then the music starts, music that s taken years of preparing. The show begins as singing,
rapping, and dancing erupts on stage. Then the mastermind of the show comes on Lin Manuel
Miranda he wrote everything you re hearing, and even sings it. His acting is phenomenal and the
show is perfection. By definition an artist is someone who is skilled at a particular task or
occupation, not just someone who paints, sculpts or draws. This describes Lin Manuel Miranda
perfectly because, he is remarkable at what he does, composing music, singing and acting.

To What Extent Did the Revolutions of 1848-9 Fail in Italy...
The failures of 1848 9 could be blamed on the poor leadership of Individuals such as Charles Albert
and Mazzini. However there are other contributing factors that should be taken into account.
Although Charles Albert seems to be successful in uniting the states of Italy to strengthen his
campaign, for example, by joining Lombardy and Venetia with Piedmont and merging their armies
into one in 1848, and aiding the rebels in Lombardy, his poor leadership effected the outcome of the
1848 9 Revolutions. Albert was uncomfortable with non Piedmontese revolutionaries and made them
swear an oath of loyalty to Piedmont, nor would he accept volunteers from other states in his army.
This lack of unity hindered his chances of success. After Lombardy ... Show more content on

However poor leadership was not the only aspect holding the revolutionaries back.
A lack of unity was preventing the states of Italy from making any significant progress.
The failure of Revolutions in Naples and Sicily, for example, were due to the fact that the
revolutionaries in Naples split into moderates and radicals. These two groups, even though they both
wanted to expel the foreign occupying country Austria, were divided in their aims. Whilst the liberals
believed that a constitution was necessary, the Radicals favoured republics. Their inability to work
together and their separate aims resulted in Failure. In Piedmont, Charles Albert would not accept
volunteers from other states in his army, or work with any other revolutionary groups, unless they
declared their loyalty to Piedmont.
A lack of unity further led to a lack of central guidance. There was no universally acceptable
national leader who could co ordinate policy, Pope Pius IX had declined the position of Head of
Italy, and neither Mazzini or Charles Albert were acceptable for everyone. ~Local revolutionary
leaders had no central guidance to rule by and the separate states were all divided, setting up
provisional governments of their own chosen methods; extremist, liberal, radical, democratic or
monarchist.
Not only were the revolutionary movements lacking in guidance from 1848 9, they were

How Did Barnum Influence American Entertainment
Phineas Taylor Barnum, also known as P.T. Barnum, was an outstanding businessman from the age
of 12. However, he was also an awful person. He did many things within his life including, the
Barnum s American Museum, the Jenny Lind tour, and starting the Greatest Show on Earth . The
majority of things he did was for his own personal gain and was almost always detrimental to those
surrounding him. P.T Barnum was a negative influence on american entertainment because he
abused animals and people with disabilities for profit.
Barnum was born on July 5th, 1810 in Bethel, Connecticut. He started his entrepreneurial career at
the early age of 12, when he began selling overpriced snacks and drinks at local gatherings. After

It began when he bought an elderly woman named Joice Heth. Barnum bought Heth from slavery
and put her display for spectators to enjoy. The old lady was blind and partially paralysed but,
still expected to sing hymns and tell stories. Barnum claimed that she was the Oldest Woman
Alive and that she was a nurse for George Washington. After the tragic death of Heth, Barnum
wanted to prove the age of her and he thought of only one way. He presented a special showing
featuring Heth s autopsy. However, this did not go as planned when the medical examiner stated
that she was no older than 80. Spectators were very upset with Barnum s hoax and did not expect it
to happen again. Nevertheless, Barnum s scams did not stop there; after Heth passed away Barnum
went to seek out his next money making career. Eventually he decides on the museum business
when a local museum suddenly closes. Barnum turned the John Scudder s American Museum to the
Barnum s American Museum; this museum was filled with many types of freak shows from all
over the world. Some of the most known freaks include General Tom Thumb, Eng and Chang, and
the Feejee Mermaid. General Tom Thumb was born Charles Stratton and stood 25 inches tall when
he was full grown. General Tom Thumb was Barnum s most successful show, they toured the United
States and parts of Europe. Barnum used his size as the main factor of the show. Eng and Chang

The Dual Writing Style In Gillian Flynn s Gone Girl
Nick and Amy moved from New York City, where both were laid off from their previous jobs as
writers, to Nick s hometown of North Carthage, Missouri to care for Nick s cancer stricken mother
and his father with alzheimer s. The two have a quite imperfect marriage that is at times profoundly
one sided, but is disrupted when Amy goes missing. A search Amy quickly ensues, and as the
investigation progresses, the truth about Amy and Nick s not so wonderful marriagecomes out for all
to see. In this journal I will be predicting the possibility of Nick s involvement in the case,
questioning why the detectives won t rule Nick out as a possible suspect, and evaluating the dual
perspectivewriting style in Gone Girl.
Nick continues to portray Amy s disappearance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with the rotating viewpoints, the two stories being told, by Amy and Nick, happen at
different times through the collective story. I usually dislike this writing method, but in this plot, I
think it works well. I like that the two do not tell the same story from different perspectives but
rather one tells the story and the other follows with a background perspective that gives some
insight as to the reasoning behind the actions and motives of the characters in the present. In the
case of this book, Nick is narrating the investigation of Amy s disappearance as chapters of Amy s
diary chronicle the past relationship between the two counterparts. The two perspectives
complement each other, but neither spoil the storyline, as dual perspective books tend to do. For
example, Amy often gives us accounts from Nick and Amy s early relationship. Her discoveries
from the dawn of their romance shows how the opposite family structures of the two partners change
how act in the present of their relationship: People say children from broken homes have it hard, but
the children of charmed marriages have their own particular challenges (Flynn 27). The two narrators
of the story give a deep understanding of the motives and actions without giving too many details
that might spoil the future of the
