a. Course Description
This course offers a view of statistical methods including basic concepts employed in quantitative
and qualitative analysis methods, including the computer applications for research. Also, the course
aims to make students familiar with numerous methodologies of statistics. This course also
introduces statistical methods that can be applied to the higher education in the field of engineering.

b. Course Objectives:
1. Develop a solid foundation in statistical concepts by mastering measures of
central tendency, dispersion and gain proficiency in using the R programming
language.
2. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of probability theory, discrete
distributions (Bernoulli, Binomial and Poisson) and continuous distributions
(Uniform, Exponential and Normal), emphasizing properties and practical
applications using R.
3. Apply statistical methods in practical scenarios through regression analysis,
sampling techniques, hypothesis testing procedures with a focus on large sample
significance testing and analysis of variance (Anova) using R.

c. Course Outcomes: -
Students will able to: -

CO1 Articulate key statistical measures, including arithmetic mean, median, mode,
range, quartile deviation, standard deviation and regression.
CO2 Demonstrate understanding of probability concepts including addition and
multiplication theorems, conditional probability and Bayes theorem.
CO3 Apply knowledge of data structures (vectors, matrices, data frames) and
conduct regression analysis.
CO4 Analyse and interpret various probability distributions (Bernoulli, Binomial,
Poisson, Uniform, Exponential and Normal).
CO5 Evaluate and critically assess the relevance of statistical methods in different
contexts like select appropriate statistical tests for hypothesis testing.
