Introduction to Linux Event Report
The Department of Information Science and Engineering organized a two-day workshop titled
“Introduction to Linux” on 28th and 29th March 2025. This initiative aimed to enhance students'
understanding of the Linux operating system, its fundamentals, and practical applications in the real
world. The session was intended for both beginners and intermediate learners to bridge the gap
between theoretical knowledge and practical usage of Linux in the IT industry.

The primary objectives of the workshop were:
To introduce students to the basics of Linux and its architecture.
To familiarize participants with essential Linux commands.
To demonstrate the installation and configuration of Linux-based systems.
To provide hands-on practice on Linux environments.
Workshop Highlights
Day 1 (28/03/2025):
o Introduction to the Linux operating system and its history.
o Overview of different Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, CentOS).
o Hands-on session: Basic Linux commands and navigation through the Linux
filesystem.
Day 2 (29/03/2025):
o File and directory management commands.
o User management, file permissions, and process control.
o Shell scripting basics.

The workshop was highly interactive and successful, with enthusiastic participation from
students. By the end of the session, students were able to:
Comfortably work in a Linux environment.
Perform basic administrative tasks.
Understand the critical role of Linux in software development, server management, and
cybersecurity.
Students expressed their appreciation for the practical approach and were motivated to further
explore Linux independently.

The “Introduction to Linux” workshop met its intended objectives by providing a solid
foundation for students in Linux. The Department of Information Science and Engineering looks
forward to hosting more such workshops to equip students with industry-relevant skills and foster
a culture of continuous learning.
