The course's main feature is the industry internship (CSMAX596) paper which gives you industry experience for
one whole trimester. As an intern, you will be mentored and supported by your employer and University
supervisor as you work on a real-world problem in an industry team setting. The MInfoTech was developed as
part of the Auckland ICT Graduate School, a joint initiative between the University of Waikato and the
University of Auckland to develop industry-ready ICT experts. The aim of the programme is to meet the
explosive demand for highly-skilled network and data professionals, coders, system architects, web developers
and other work-ready ICT professionals. Technology is the fastest growing sector in New Zealand, and with a
$1.3 trillion projected growth in the global ICT industry from 2013-2020, the MInfoTech prepares you to make

with undergraduate degrees, as well as a need for graduates who are capable of performing independent
research into complex IT issues. Graduates of the Master of Information Technology (MIT) will be equipped

their qualifications, this Master’s programme ticks all the boxes. The Master of Applied Technologies
(Computing) gives you the skills to undertake systematic research and solve complex applied computing
problems in a specialisation of your choice: data analytics and intelligence, cybersecurity and networking or
software development. You could also take an interdisciplinary approach. You may undertake a 90-credit
applied research thesis based on a topic relevant to your experience and interest, or design and carry out an

Master of Applied Information Technology
The Master of Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an extended study programme in
their specialised information technology field. It requires 180 credits and has two pathways:

• The thesis pathway is a research-based master's programme. It includes a 90-credit level 9 thesis
module and aims to prepare students for further studies, such as a doctorate.

• The research project pathway is considered to be a coursework-based master's programme. It


includes a 45-credit level 9 research module (a shorter form of the Thesis module). The pathway aims
to prepare students to obtain a more senior position in their field of information technology. An
industry internship could be integrated into this pathway.

The remaining modules in both pathways are at level 8. Students who want to take more level 8 electives will
take the research project pathway, whereas those wishing to undertake more substantial research will take the
thesis pathway.
