Join Prof. Robert's team and conduct research on the following topic:
Transformer models are a type of neural network that use mathematical techniques called attention or self-attention to detect relationships between data
elements in a sequence, such as words in a sentence. They are among the newest and most powerful classes of models, and they are used primarily in the
fields of natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), and signal processing. In the past few years, the Transformer model has become the
buzzword in advanced deep learning and deep neural networks. This model is most suitable for NLP and helps Google to enhance its search engine results
for instance. Since its launch in 2017, the Transformer deep learning model architecture has been evolving into almost all possible domains. This model is
also helpful for time series forecasting. Researchers have been applying Transformer-based models to time series problems, and these models have the
potential to model complex dynamics of time series data that are challenging for sequence models. There are several methods for developing Transformer
models for time series forecasting (e.g. analyzing attention distributions and developing interfaces for explaining individual predictions). While transparent
models may not always be capable of competitive performance, a step in the direction of a more interpretable model already provides transparency. Trust,
auditability, compliance, and understanding potential biases are some of the fundamental reasons why transparency is becoming a requirement in the field
of AI. Without transparency, there is a risk of creating AI systems that could inadvertently perpetuate harmful biases, make inscrutable decisions (medical
sector), or even lead to undesirable outcomes in high-risk applications.
