Taking Better Digital Photos


Westfield Washington Public Library Board of Trustees: Mike Thomas, President Carolyn Wheeler, Vice President Paul Catlin, Treasurer Mic Mead, Secretary Nancy Knochel Dan Pitcock David Weiss The Library Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Almost everybody has a digital camera, but the results can often be disappointing. On Wednesday, April 11, at 6 p.m., the library is bringing in a local expert to share tips and techniques for taking better photos with a point and shoot digital camera. Bring your camera to learn more about its basic operation. Youll learn about lighting, composition, downloading your photos and storing them. There will also be plenty of time for questions and answers. The program is offered again on Saturday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m., and both sessions are free, but please register with Information/Reference Services at 317-896-9391.

Money Smart Week @ WWPL


Libraries around the country are observing Money Smart Week April 21-28, and WWPL is partnering with Ameriana Bank to bring you three special programs to be more Money Smart! Decision Tree Teaching kids to make good decisions about money isnt easy, but this program makes it easy and fun! Some fun folks are bringing Decision Tree to the library on Wednesday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. for kids to pick cards from the branches. Kids decide if the decision on the card is a good one or bad one, and how it affects the money they have to save and spend. Registration is not required for this free program. Excuses, Excuses Young adults are full of excuses to not save money mainly wanting to spend it! Excuses, Excuses on Thursday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m. will illustrate the importance of saving money, overcoming excuses and the value of savings goals through interactive stories and their ultimate consequences. Registration is not required for this free program for teens. Saving for College - 529 Plans College tuitions continue to rise, and families wonder how best to plan for this major expense. Join us on Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m., as trained representatives explain the options for Saving for College 529 Plans, including an overview of what a plan can do for you and how to choose the one for your family, followed by a question and answer session. If you have children, dont miss this free program!

From the Board of Trustees


The board meeting minutes and Libraries. We issued 170 new packets are posted on the librarys library cards, and of those, 18 were issued to Hamilton County website at www.wwpl.lib.in.us. Reciprocal Borrowers. 871 items were checked out using the Self March 14, 2012 Check station. Board Meeting Circulation for February 2012 was 35,075, and of those circulations 1,683 were from Hamilton County Reciprocal borrowers. 83 items were circulated by patrons from other Evergreen Libraries, and a total of 670 items from WWPL were sent to other Evergreen The Building Committee of the Library Board reported that they had met with Dr. Keen and Mayor Andy Cook to discuss the Renovation, Space Reallocation and Addition project. The building committee will be having small meetings with city councilors to give them information on the project prior to the next board meeting. The Approved 2012 Budget was received from the Department of Local Government Finance. 2012 Operating Budget is $ 1,005,901.00 2012 Lease Rental Budget is $ 284,052.00 2012 Total Budget is $1,289,953.00 2012 Operating Tax Rate is $ 0.0280 2012 Lease Rental Tax Rate is $ 0.0159 2012 Total Library Tax Rate is $ 0.0439 Free ESL Classes The library offers free adult ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Book Discussion Groups The Mystery Book Discussion Group is talking about Murder on Astor Place by Victoria Thompson, when they meet on Wednesday, April 4, at 1 p.m. Come join other mystery lovers at a once-a-month discussion group that meets at the library. Anime Manga Club Anime and manga enthusiasts are invited to join us every Monday for the Anime Manga Club. Hang out, watch anime and have snacks starting at 2:30 p.m. You must be 13 or older, or have a parent-signed permission slip to attend. April 9, 16, 23 and 30 Hang Time Whatevah Time for Teens is on Tuesday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m., in the Craft Room. Spend the afternoon just hanging out, playing the Wii, eating snacks, talking or doing whatevah. real competition against other teens. The library has Wii games to play, but feel free to bring your own. Teens supply the food, so bring some or make a donation. Baby Love Birth to 18 Months Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. April 5, 12, 19 and 26 Give your child a head start to early literacy with this unique program of rhyme, play and song. Free Storytime Miss Vicki brings you stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes every week on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning April 16. There is also an art project, craft, or activity afterward. Times each Monday are 10:30 a.m. for Toddlers (18 months to 3 1/2 accompanied by a caregiver) and 1 p.m. for Preschoolers (3 1/2 - Kindergarten). On Tuesdays, times are 10:15 a.m. for Preschoolers and 11:15 a.m. for Toddlers. The program is free, and registration is not required. Paws & Read All Ages Saturday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. Sign up at the Children's Desk for 15 minutes to read to a dog who is a very good listener.
