IV - LEARNING TASKS
A. Before the Lesson

1. Preliminary -Prayer
Activities -Greetings
-Checking of attendance by asking each column’s leader
to mention whom among them is/ are absent.
(Teacher will set the classroom to a conducive learning
atmosphere, safe and secure learning environment
through checking of attendance and setting of
guidelines.)

(Teacher will have a friendly implementation of policies,

guidelines and procedures for the entire class.)
-Setting of class rules/guidelines
(Everyone in the classroom is encouraged to
remember the rules.)
1. Respect to one another
2. Listen attentively
3. Do not talk while the teacher are discussing in
front unless your name is called.
4. Raise your right hand if you want to answer.
5. Observe classroom cleanliness
6.

2. Lesson Ask students about their understanding of the previous

Review lesson to know whether they still remember it.

3. Engage MATCH IT UP!

Show the class pictures of different scientific
instruments. Then let the students match the
instruments with their specific usage.

3.
Explain to the students that each of the scientific
instruments has a specific usage.

Group Activity 1:
The students will be grouped into four.
Let the learners arrange the jumbled letters. Explain to the
class what the jumbled letters were all about.
1. O-N-D-A-I-M (Domain)
2. A-E-N-G-R (Range)
3. U-T-N-O-F-C-I-N (Function)

5. Exploration Group Activity 2:

The students will be group into four. Each group will be
given an example of a relation. Let them analyze the given
example and share their ideas with the class.

2. What have you observed in the second column?
3. Why do think that column A is a function?
4. Why do you think that column B is not a function?
B. During the Lesson

6. Explanation Presentation of the objectives:

(Let the students read the objectives)

A. Define and identify what is function;
B. Solve problems involving functions; and
C. Appreciate the value of functions in real-life
situations.

The class will have an interactive discussion of what is a

function.

Definition of a function:
Function – is a relation in which each element of the
DOMAIN (x) corresponds to exactly one element of
a RANGE (y).
A function is used to describe how one variable depends on
another.

Example:
(The teacher will give an example relating to real-life
situation)
The scores of students in a certain test in General
Mathematics.
Let us assume that the domain (X) is the students, and
the range(Y) is their scores in the given test.

What is the Evaluation of Function?

➢ Evaluation of Function is a process of calculating
the value of a function (Y) for a given value of X;
➢ The Y is the dependent variable with the X is
independent variable;
➢ The process is done by substituting the numerical
values of X to the given function.

Example:
If f(x)= 3x2 -2x + 4, find the value of function if:
a.) f(2) b. x= -3

The teacher will show and explain the solution.

If f(x)= 3x2 -2x + 4, find the value of function if:
a.) f(2) b. x= -3

SOLUTION:
If f (2)
Step 1: Copy the equation
f(x)= 3x2 -2x + 4
Step 2: Substitute the value of x
f(2) = 3 (2)2 – 2(2) + 4
Step 3: Simplify by applying the order of the operation
f(2) = 3 (2)2 – 2(2) + 4
f(2) = 3 (4) – 2(2) + 4
f(2) = 12 - 4 + 4
f(2)= 12

The teachers will let the students answer example

number 2 on their own. The will then ask a volunteer to
show his/her answer to on the board.

Solution:
If f(-3)
Step 1: Copy the equation
f(x)= 3x2 -2x + 4
Step 2: Substitute the value of x
f(2) = 3 (-3)2 – 2(-3) + 4
Step 3: Simplify by applying the order of the operation
f(-3) = 3 (-3)2 – 2(-3) + 4
f(-3) = 27 + 6 + 4
f(-3) = 37

7. Elaborate Group Activity 3:

The students will be group into four, solve the following
functions and find the following values on the box
provided below.

Try it!

1008 584 188 396 1496

1. f ( x )=4 x 2−8 x +4 f(7)

2. f ( x )=5 x 3−3 x−9 f(-6)
3. f ( x )=3 x 3−3 x−2 f(8)
4. f ( x )=5 x 2 +7 x−8 f(9)

C. After the Lesson

8. Evaluate The teacher will conduct a short quiz.

(In a ½ crosswise paper the students will answer the
test)
Direction: Evaluate the following functions. (for 20
points)
1. f(x)= 2 +x – x2 Find f(2)
2. g(a)= 3a – 2 Find g(1)
3. f(m)= 5m +2m +2 for m=0
5 2

4. p(a)= 43a for p(1)

V – ASSIGNMENT

9. Extent Questions and Answers:

1. What is f(-3) given f(x)= 2x+1 ?
Answer: f(-3) = -5
2. Evaluate the function f(x)= 3x3 + 3x2+x- 3 for x= -1
Answer: f (-1)= -10
3. Evaluate the function f(m) =
2x3 – 4x +3 for x=3 Answer:
f(3)= -63
