Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI)

A brain-computer interface (BCI) allows individuals to control external devices using brain signals by capturing and analyzing these signals. The history of BCIs began with Hans Berger's discovery of brain electrical activity and the development of electroencephalography (EEG) in 1924. Current applications of BCIs include treating psychiatric disorders, enhancing educational experiences, and influencing sports performance through crowd emotions.

Brain Computer Interface (BCI)

A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a system that enables a person to

use their brain signals to control an external device. BCIs capture and
analyze brain signals then translate them into usable commands for an
external device to put into action.

The history of brain-computer

interfaces (BCIs) starts with Hans
Berger's discovery of the brain's
electrical activity and the development
of electroencephalography (EEG). In
1924 Berger was the first to record
human brain activity utilizing EEG.
Berger was able to identify oscillatory
activity, such as the alpha wave (8–13
Hz), by analyzing EEG traces.

Applications

BCIs are being explored for the treatment

of psychiatric disorders like depression
and anxiety by modulating brain networks
through closed-loop stimulation

BCIs can help educators understand the

cognitive load students are experiencing
during different learning activities.

BCI in sports, with the possibility of players'

performance being influenced by crowd emotions,
creating a more dynamic and interactive experience
