ACTIVITIES

Tri-weekly session - Robot Operating Systems

Weekly sessions were conducted for the interested students
of MIT on the Robotic Operating System. This 2-week session
on ROS included a Linux overview and basic ROS concepts
specifically organized for beginners who had no prior
knowledge

Basic Linux terminal commands and core ROS topics like

nodes. topics, publishers, and subscribers were majorly
covered with other supporting topics.

A demo project on Turtlebot using ROS that included its basic

working and implementation was demonstrated.

TOUCH WITH TECHNOLOGY

Touch with Technology is a weekly technology news column

where we post information about the current happenings in
technology, robotics, science, etc. on our Instagram page. This
initiative started on 26th February 2022. Each week, we have
volunteers who work on articles related to anything happening
in the tech world and a poster-designing team that works along
with them to design the poster in an attractive and colorful way

Weekly Project Meetings

Weekly Project Progress Update Meetings

Every week, on Fridays, progress update meetings were

conducted to discuss the progress made in the ongoing
projects and the challenges faced during the work.

This was basically a brainstorming session that included

members from all the projects, discussing new ideas and
solutions to the problems.

This allowed all the members of the club to interact with

each other and their projects and share their ideas and
opinions that helped each other in the development and
implementation of projects.

MITRA LEARNING APP

MITRA Learning App is a Progressive Web Application (PWA) that

can be used in a browser or can be installed and used as a native
application across all platforms like desktops, smartphones, etc.
It includes functionalities for registering for an account and
signing in for accessing the courses. The weekly sessions
conducted by MITRA on technical subjects like Python, OpenCV,
Machine Learning, etc can be added as course modules with their
corresponding materials in PDF and structured into a single
course that can be learned by registered users at their own pace.

Since push notifications are enabled on the registered user's

device, they can be used to send an update on a new available
course, new live sessions, workshops, events, symposiums,
hackathons, or contests

MITRA LEARNING APP

The application was developed with frontend web technologies

like React framework based on JavaScript, MUI, a design library,
etc., and has used Firebase's (by Google) free plan for hosting our
application and it provides document database Firestore, push
notifications services, user authentication, etc. With our
application, we strive to provide good learning resources for
students to thrive and hone their skills

Memento awarded to the developer of the

app, Mr. Padmanabhan by the Chief Guest

Projects'23

The main focus of the year 2022-23 is to work on real-time

projects that enables learning while doing. The Team MITRA is
currently working on a few projects that are socially relevant. We
have successfully passed the design stage and is currently ready
to be manufactured. The project teams are currently working on
the hardware part of the project.

The two main projects the team is currently working on are:

1. Swatchtha Bot - Annual project

a. Lead by
i. Mohammed Mohudoom - Pre-final year, Mechanical dept.
ii. Vaikunth G - Final year, Electronics and Communication
2. Smart Vacuum Cleaner Bot
a. Lead by
i. Ruban - Second year, Electronics and Communication

SWATCHTHA BOT
GOAL OF THE PROJECT

The main goal of the

project is to design and
develop an autonomous bot
that is capable of picking
up trash. This is achieved
by a manipulator which is
mounted on top of the
chassis.
The bot receives its feed from the camera and navigates
autonomously to the location where the gripper of the
manipulator picks up the trash piece and puts it into the
collecting bin at its back where it is split into degradable and
nonbiodegradable wastes. Also, the bot will have an additional
vacuum cleaner at front to suck up small waste materials.

Projects'23

PROGRESS

Design for the gripper and chassis is completed. About 60

percent of the design of the manipulator is complete.
The trash identification and classification model is being
trained with our own dataset for greater accuracy results.
The Team is maintaining a GitHub repository for this project
where every detail of the project is updated and promotes
teamwork.

SMART VACUUM CLEANER BOT

GOAL OF THE PROJECT

The goal of the project is to develop a smart and autonomous

vacuum cleaner bot that avoids collision with obstacles. This
project team only consists of second years where they research
and explore, thereby giving new improvements to the project.

This project is predominantly worked by the second years to

explore, experiment and learn new things while doing the
project.

DEXBOT'23

ABOUT
Dexbot is the National Level Annual Symposium of
the MIT Robotics Association held during the even
semester. Several students from multiple colleges
and even other states participate every year.

With the ability to instantly perceive and

comprehend their surroundings and make informed
decisions using multiple inputs, contemporary AI
systems are transforming our world in countless
ways, from autonomous vehicles to healthcare
advancements. As part of our mission at MITRA, we
conduct DEXBOT to help individuals to better
acquaint themselves with emerging robotic
technologies and navigate their career paths with
confidence. Specifically, our symposium provides a
framework for students to meet industry standards
and gain practical experience in their field.

DEXBOT'23 ()

Dexbot'23 started with an inaugural function

presided over by our beloved Dean of MIT Campus,
Prof. J. Prakash. Mr. Bharath Srinivasan from
CODIIS Technologies was the Chief Guest for the
event. The audience was amazed by the enthusiastic
and inspiring speeches of the dignitaries.

Several Students from over 15 colleges had

participated and gained sound knowledge and
showcased their skills in the competitive events and
won rewards.
