Chapter 3

Methodology

Chapter 3 consists of six parts: 1) Research design; 2) Sources of data; 3) Project design; 4)
Pilot testing; 5) Instruments and Data Collection; 6) Checklist questionnaire;7)Data gathering
procedures;8)Data processing techniques

Part one, Research design, restates the reason for conducting the study and the research
design used.

Part two, Sources of data, Relevant information to support the research.

Part three, Project design, illustrates the project plan , design ,preparation, construction
procedure, and materials, tools and equipment.

Part four, Pilot testing, collect preliminary data on the study’s participants and outcome
measure.

Part five, Instrument and data collection ,process of collecting data and instrument used
therein.

Part six, Checklist questionnaire, A list items required, things to be done, or points to be
considered, used as a reminder.

Part seven, A systematic process for gathering observation or measurements to gain insigths
into a research topic.

Part eight, The score of evaluation will be tabulated to the entire group each category will
be followed.
Research design
The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, combining
both quantitative and qualitative approaches to comprehensively evaluate
the operational cooling box's performance and sustainability. The
quantitative component will include experimental testing and
performance metrics, while the qualitative component will focus on user
feedback and expert evaluations. This two approach will provide a
comprehensive understanding of the cooling box's capabilities and
limitations.

Sources of data
In this study the researchers will conduct an experimental testing
with the cooling box in controlled environments to measure its durability,
cooling effectiveness, and temperature consistency across various indoor
and outdoor settings.
Furthermore, the researchers will conduct a survey regarding the
experiences and feedbacks of people with the similar products. The target
groups for survey are consumers, outdoor enthusiasts, environmental
advocates and product designers and manufacturers.
This study will also employ a purposive sampling method to gather

specific and detailed information from targeted groups who used the

cooling box.

Project design

The design/plan of the device included both the mechanical and the electrical design

of the device. Schematic Diagram is represented in a sketch shown in Figure 2.0. The figure is

Data Gathering Instruments

The researcher adopted the checklist questionnaire instruments developed by

‘’REMOTE CONTROL STOP/START INSTRUCTIONAL DEVICE’’ By Catinan (2005) with

permission to use the instruments. The instruments will not be subjected to validation and

reliability test since it was used already in the conduct of research study.

The questionnaire consisted of Two parts. Part I is personal data of the respondents.

Part II contains the checklist questionnaires for the evaluation of DESIGN , CONSTRUCTION,

OPERATING PEOFORMANCE of the project.

The 5-point Likert Scale for the level of Acceptability and satisfaction will be used.

Data gathering procedures

The data gathering procedures in this study was divided into two phases: the Permit (Phase

A) and the Developmental tools (Phase B).

Phase A- Permit. A Permit to conduct an evaluation among the respondents was secured

from the office of the director, School of Industrial Technology of West Visayas State

University - Lambunao Campus. Upon the approval, the evaluators were requested to put a

check which corresponds to their choice in evaluating the project. The project was judged

according to the criteria set, evaluated in terms of design, construction and operating

performance using the numerical scoring of 5 points Hedonic rating scale where 5 as the

highest numerical score with a corresponding description of "highly acceptable" and 1 as the

lowest numerical score with a corresponding description of "Poorly acceptable".

Phase B- Developmental tools. The descriptive-developmental tools includes the

preparation in constructing and designing the project. It includes the gathering of the
materials needed and designing its diagram. The project was thoroughly observed to see if it

is working or not.

Data processing techniques

To determine the level of acceptability of the operational cooling box for indoor and outdoor

use the mean and the standard deviation was used as basis of interpretation. The obtain

data will be properly recorded, tabulated, and analyses using the level of acceptability

among experts in terms of design, construction and operating performance. The following

scale for the mean and its description was used.

Scale Description

4.21-5.00 Highly acceptable

3.41-4.20 Moderately acceptable

2.61-3.40 Acceptable

1.81-2.60 Fairly acceptable

1.00-1.80 Poorly acceptable
