Module:1 Basic Calculus

1. Find the area of the surface by revolving the graph of the curve 𝑦 = 𝑥 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑥 = 0 𝑡𝑜 𝑥 = 1
about the x-axis.
2. Find the area of surface generated by revolving the cardioid 𝑟 = 𝑎(1 + 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜃) about the initial
line.
3. Find the surface area of the solid generated by revolution of 𝑟 = 2𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑠𝜃 about the initial line.
4. Find the volume of pyramid shown in the figure by slicing.

5. Find the volume of the solid generated by revolving the region bounded by 𝑦 = √𝑥 and
the lines 𝑦 = 1, 𝑥 = 4 about line 𝑦 = 1. ( shown in the figure-b)

6. The region enclosed by the X-axis and the parabola 𝑦 = 3𝑥 − 𝑥 is revolved about the
vertical line 𝑥 = −1 to generate the shape of the solid ( shown in the figure-b). Find its
volume.
7. The region bounded by the curve 𝑦 = √4𝑥 − 𝑥 , the X-axis and the line 𝑥 = 2 is
revolved about the X-axis to generate a solid. Find its volume.

8. The circle 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 𝑎 is rotated about the X-axis to generate sphere( shown in the
figure). Find its volume.

9. Find the volume of the solid generated by revolving the region between the Y-axis and
the curve 𝑥 = 2 𝑦 , 0 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 4 about the Y-axis.
10. Find the volume of the solid generated by revolving the region between the parabola
𝑥 = 𝑦 + 1 and the lines 𝑥 = 3 about line 𝑥 = 3. ( shown in the figure-b)

11. The region enclosed by the X-axis , the parabola 𝑦 = √𝑥 and the line 𝑥 = 4 is revolved
about the Y-axis to generate the solid( shown in the figure-b). Find its volume.

Module:2 Single-variable Calculus (Differentiation)

CO-2 The fallouts of Taylor’s and Maclaurin’s Theorem that is fundamental to application
of analysis to Engineering problems.

1. Find Taylor series for following functions at given point [ OR in powers of (x-a) ].
( 1 ) 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 − 2𝑥 + 4 ; 𝑎 = 2 ( 2 ) 𝑓(𝑥) = sin 𝑥 ; 𝑎 = ( 3 ) 𝑓(𝑥) = ln 𝑥 ; 𝑎 = 1

2. Find Maclaurin series for following functions.
